Yep. I was working in the basement kitchen of a hotel 2 days after I stepped off the plane. Kitchen portering on £2.74 an hour pre minimum wage. My education, pedigree etc counted for nothing at that point. You get grafting to earn a living. Everything else can wait.
When you first get to UK, or any other Western nation, nobody cares what secondary school you attended back in Nigeria, or whether you made a first class. Any job you see, you take - whether it is sweeping the roads, security, flipping burgers or looking after old people.
