Absolute bombshell report in the FT tonight that Reeves has effectively ripped up her entire Budget and abandoning plans to raise income tax. Means a lot of disparate, smaller measures now on the table. Just yesterday morning I was told they were desperate to avoid that.

I'm a finance and econ guy but don't tell me about economic indicators improving when this is happening.
"Although 85% of children go to primary school, less than half complete their secondary education. Some 10 million children are out of school in Nigeria, more than in any other country, according to the UN."

Wanna know how this iron ore got to this port in Guinea. It's a 28-year tale of bribery, intrigue, coups and now a general. Oh and China. https://t.co/AdFsTCr9ak

This heart breaking piece, written from a former insider's point of view, explains an awful lot of the background to this week's debacle at the BBC: https://t.co/CDDfDSqceH

If this is a 4 star hotel then I am Mickey Mouse. We know what really happened. Somebody embezzled the money & went for the most sub par option they could find.
This is why anyone who remotely cares about Nigeria, has to care about governance. Do you know what it means to find a “hotel” like this in Morocco? The person must have not only being incompetent, they must have been deliberately wicked.

Detained??? He was convicted in a criminal court before a judge and jury. If you aren't aware of the facts try and inform yourself before you post embarrassing nonsense like this.
Earlier today, a high-level delegation sent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with officials at the UK Ministry of Justice to discuss the case of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who has been detained in Britain since March 2023. The delegation, which included Nigeria’s Minister of

How stupid are these people? Totally lacking any sense of embarrassment. He was convicted of a crime. End of story.

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

A blockbuster Reuters report by Jeff Horwitz analyzes leaked internal documents that reveal that: 10% of Meta's gross revenue comes from ads for fraudulent goods and scams, and; the company knows it, and; they decided not to do anything about it, because... 1/

Never forget just how ruthless and amoral Agbado Man is. He will throw anyone to the wolves if it might help him hold on to power. Look at all the anti Igbo propaganda and violence he unleashed in Lagos once he felt that his influence was being threatened.
For what it's worth, I do not believe Tinubu is a religious bigot, neither do I believe that he supports or wants the killings in Northern Nigeria to happen/continue. His key problem is his cowardice and ambition. He knows he wants to be a 2-term president, he knows he needs

A Country of Particular Concern: The Fulani, Faith, and the Failure of the Nigerian State
I am just editing a long read about Nigeria's current mess, its declaration as a country of particular concern, and the killings of Christians (and Muslims) and the place of the Fulani in Nigerian consciousness. I hope you will read it. Up in a couple of hours.

If you think the west cares about Nigeria you'd better take off your blinkers. They'll care AFTER a civil war is going full throttle and there is a refugee problem of biblical proportions and a chunk of that population of 200 million tries to find sanctuary in the west.
Nigeria's stability is vital to the United States/the West. This shared reality necessitates that US/Nigeria take steps to resolve their issues. The ramifications is simply too great to ignore, given the catastrophic impact of destabilising a country of 200 million people
