I want to share the Bone Marrow Transplant journey between myself and my sister online. But I’ve spent yesterday holding back tears; stealing moments between appointments to cry; being angry & exhausted and crying all day today. It’s a lot. Sickle Cell isn’t an afterthought.

Tech is supposed to make life better for everyone, but instead it’s being used to shut out people with disabilities & harm them online. We need to be better as a society and prioritize accessibility in its true form that every person is factored in. #16DaysOfActivism

It’s 2025 yet some apps can’t be navigated with a screen reader. Captchas lock out people with cognitive & visual disabilities. AI tools that ‘flag’ disability as suspicious behavior. Customer service bots that can’t understand accessible communication. Where is the accessibility

Society should ask itself: if we’re building anything, a space, a policy, a digital tool why isn’t accessibility the starting point? Why do people have to fight for basic access? Technology should be expanding rights, not creating new ways to exclude or harm.

It’s the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and I am reminded that as society we only ever ‘care’ about disability rights when it affects us personally. We rarely ever try to intentionally make society truly equal and accessible. We in fact add to ableism.

Half of the world's countries do not criminalise slavery. In the digital age, slavery has found new tools: trafficking networks using social media, job ads targeting desperate young women, recruitment scams, trad-wife content that puts girls at risk of early marriage.

Earlier this year, I learned about descent-based slavery, and it broke my heart that such a barbaric system still exists.. This still affects communities in Mali today, and it’s part of a wider crisis: 40 million people are living in modern slavery across the world.
