New paper just accepted in @ChemCommun, we develop simple modulated routes (HF free) to new MIL-53(Cr) MOFs that show stepwise SO2 uptake and sensing. Led by @DominicBara in collaboration with @MxOFsGroupUNAM. Funded by @ERC_Research. https://t.co/5VpIH3mewu

Modulated self-assembly protocols are used to develop facile, HF-free syntheses of the archetypal flexible PCP, MIL-53(Cr), and novel isoreticular analogues MIL-53(Cr)-Br and MIL-53(Cr)-NO2. All...

You aren't locked into the field you did your PhD in for the rest of your days. Sure, it's great if what you trained for gives you the awesome career you deserve. But if continuing on in the same field isn't feasible for you (for whatever reason), know you have other job options.

Congratulations Dr Walshe! Very well deserved after a lot of hard work during challenging times. Very proud moment yesterday!
PhD Complete 😊 Thanks to @forganross for a fab 4 years at @UofGChem Thanks to @ChampnessGroup for the discussion today! There's a Dr in the house! 🎓

Some lovely citizen science here confirming that yet another metric widely used in science is debatable in relevance, but also how to try to fix it. Very happy to have played a small part in this with @DominicBara
I am delighted to - finally! - announce the publication of the most extensive collaborative work I have been involved in: How Reproducible are Surface Areas Calculated from the BET Equation? https://t.co/Se6LaANjLr Indeed, people have measured N2 isotherms at 77K for more than..

I’m over the 🌙 to share my just accepted paper in Journal of Materials Chemistry A🤩🤩 “Rationalising the Multivariate Modulation of MUV-10 for the Defect-Introduction of Multiple Functionalised Modulators” @ICMol_UV @MSCActions 👇🏼👇🏼 https://t.co/NVtHXsVA0n

Among multivariate metal–organic frameworks, multivariate modulated (MTVM) MOFs offer the possibility of introducing multiple functionalised units into the MOFs as defect-compensating ligands...

New pre-print! @CatWalshe08 shows how to control flexibility in MIL-88A(Sc) through (i) modifying reaction conditions to include formate buttresses in the construct and (ii) cleanly postsynthetically brominating the fumarate linker. https://t.co/BSxvF3bTSV

Breathing in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), the distinctive transformation between a porous phase and a less (or non) porous phase, often controls the uptake of guest molecules, endowing flexible...

Really sad to be leaving Glasgow after 5.5 years as a PhD student and postdoc at @UofGlasgow It's been a pleasure to work with @forganross and all the members of the Frogan Group (past and present)! Looking forward to updating you all on the next stage of my life!

New pre-print: we made an interpenetrated MIL-53 topology MOF from Sc, characterised its flexibility, and used modulation and simulation to optimise H2 storage. Led by @AlexanderThom5 and collaborations with @DrMogg, @DavidFairen, and @DiamondLightSou

To achieve optimal performance in gas storage and delivery applications, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) must combine high gravimetric and volumetric capacities. One potential route to balancing high...

I have the best job! Two years in the making and can’t release the full details yet, but here is a sneak peek at the advanced powder diffraction system we developed for high-throughput materials discovery with @protoxrd, soon to leave the factory and enter our lab @uwindsor. 1/4

I am delighted to share that today I passed my PhD viva! Massive thanks to @TimEasun and Justin Hargreaves for being my examiners and Joy Farnaby for being the convener!
I can report it was a success. The tech worked. Excellent thesis, good detailed discussion and fascinating science. All makes for a very satisfying afternoon. Congrats to the PhD candidate, they did really well 😀 (it's up to them to inform the world, not me!)
