Strange how @Wired has shifted positions on open government data. It seems natural that government can have an API just like Google Cloud and Microsoft has. It would enable an ecosystem for apps that connect to government data + services. Should improve turbotax, quickbooks etc.

Correct - if I wasn’t driving one myself I would think it was hype. But it’s not.
Tesla pretty much solved self driving as a general solution, and because Elon and others have been too optimistic on timelines, nobody even believes it or pays attention. It's epic. Even I would be eye rolling still if I didn't have a HW4 Tesla. This time is actually different.
