I just read the original #SleepingBeauty #story by #Perrault, and the Prince does NOT kiss her without #consent while she’s sleeping, he approaches, “trembling and admiring” and kneels by her. Oh #Disney Disney, what have you done!?

So reading Kundera in my early twenties, I would have thought the same as this fella here, the most profound blah blah. As I approach my fifties, I’m like good god what pure unadulterated shite.

Oh so many. From years ago, the one about British upper class eating cream puffs in the garden before a garden party. And the other one about the two shop girls walking downtown New York asking the price of pearls. From now, my own.
What’s a short story that stuck inside your brain? Like, it impacted you so deeply you can still recall the feeling the first time you read it?

The irony is off the charts. Banks talking about sacred teachings. My eyes just rolled out of my head.

Definitely I have felt a sense of otherworldliness when listening to particular pieces of music, especially live music.
There is a concept known as “thin places”, where it is said that the veil between this world and the next is thin. You can sense the numinous around you, even if you cannot describe it. Where have you been that felt ‘thin’?

I’m really not getting this. Feel sad for how the patriarchy treats lower class men, absolutely. But to claim that men’s emotions and experiences have not been given a dominant place throughout the ages in almost all mainstream cultures has just bonkers pick-me energy.
@RaisinsDEtre i'm not saying that sad music for men doesn't exist, just that it doesn't dominate the mainstream, nor is it a common experience in pop culture for men to build their brand on discussing their pain and grief.

I often think about those glorious depictions of food- it was a War thing, you see it in other works of that period. Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh has some incredible food scenes.
I’ve been reading the Narnia books to my nephew and I’m amazed at the sheer prodigality of Lewis’s descriptions of food—the hams and onions and frying fish and plum puddings and hot rolls covered in marmalade and “snipe stuffed with almonds and truffles.”

But, but, why would you be googling medical questions anyway? Please don’t do that!
