There’s 120k people who think it’s a good point to “hmm but maybe sometimes it’s right to oppress people? 🤔” The internet does an incredible job of making people feel confident in saying things that would get you laughed out of a first year history tutorial.

I’m not sure if that is a Good Thing for the kind of music we’ll get, as well as for the climate the artists have to exist in. We’re going to have songs about crypto soon is what I’m saying.

Basically, where the “desired traits” bit of a cv for professions musician used to say things like “creativity, dedication to the craft, charisma” now the main quality required to be a success is the same as any entrepreneur. “Graft, persistence, being able to secure funding”

Every single example I can think of of a mainstream successful artist that breaks through now is just a crazily driven person who played the game exactly right. They’re mostly all still crazy good but I think every is now. Being crazy good is how you even get a chance.

I truly think up until about 2000ish that there were many massive bands who just really liked playing tunes and kind of fell into success cos there was enough money being spent on taking a punt that you could end up successful just because you were good.

People complain about modern music always and always say things were better. But what I think is definitely true is that it’s been businessified at every level to the point where almost every young artists main priorities are about numbers.
