I repeat for my Labour friends: rent controls never work.
Rent controls never ever work. For one thing, it reduces supply, as developers build fewer rental units if future rents are capped. Further, existing landlords convert rentals into condos or leave units vacant. Not forgetting rent controls causes misallocation as some households.

The Gaza health ministry is Hamas run. That is why its statistics should be accompanied by caveats and pinches of salt. No point pretending otherwise, it’s just denying reality.
I said this to the BBC’s Director General in 2024. “Hamas run” is inaccurate & casts doubt on reliable health ministry figures. It’s also not standard editorial policy to refer to which party runs a govt ministry. Are we talking about “far right coalition run” Israeli ministries?.

Why would anyone able to get out stay in the UK? .If you’re a top earner in Scotland the SNP pick 48% out of your pay right away. Then add in capital gains tax (no longer just restricted to top earners as freezing the allowance has dragged many middle-class investors), plus add.
Another successful friend is moving away. Selling up in London and buying a place in Italy to be his European base instead. He tells me on his very fancy street, which used to never have a single house publicly for sale, half a dozen are now selling.

This is why I keep noting Foucault. He is the postmodernist thinker who told a generation on the left that 'all knowledge is the result of the application of power & ideology'. Everything is subjective, nothing is objectively true. Thus a whole generation has ended up like her👇.
This ideology is on the way out. It's still widely believed and entrenched in many institutions, but its intellectual vacuousness is being exposed every day for all to see. They have no coherent argument, just snark and sanctimony. We've had enough.
