Sometimes I’m struck by how different the world is now from when I was growing up. Like, this morning when this song came on I thought, “That wouldn’t even be a probable story today… their faces would be buried in their phones instead…” 😔

I won this poster from the @LMReadWrite Final Stretch Conference & couldn’t wait to bring it to my room. Once I got here, I was met with this pile of LOVE! So much LOVE in the form of words on each page & LOVE in this kind act of a teacher who modeled how to LOVE for her class.❤️

Thank you, Literacy Matters, for an amazing “Final Stretch” conference. The day was packed with ideas & inspiration, and I loved getting to know @lauravseeger and her process for creating such dynamic and rich texts. Forever grateful for all that you do! 📚📖📓✍️✏️❤️

Students were focused, engaged, & driven when hunting for words with vowel teams around the room. The depth of discussion & understanding during our share/sort/syllable identification rendered a whole new level of excitement & “ah-ha” moments. I love this work. ❤️#proud2bnhpgcp

Thanks to the @newpaltz Microcredentials in SoR Fundamentals course for reminding me of the power of teaching students about “shades of meaning” & for examples of sorting words on a “meaning gradient” to help deepen students’ understanding & use of vocabulary. ❤️#proud2bnhpgcp

Writers used the QFT (Question Formulation Technique) w/partners to generate as many questions as they could on their topics. Not only did this help them to think deeper and plan for next steps, but the engagement was off the charts! Two heads are better than one! #proud2bnhpgcp

While we find ourselves in this liminal space where reading instruction is evolving & upper grade assessments are being evaluated & reconsidered, I am really proud of the work our district is doing looking "Beyond the Level" to identify needs & target instruction. #proud2bnhpgcp

Grammar angle on Valentine’s Day: Viewing “LOVE” as a verb/action (instead of an abstract noun/thing) can make us more cognizant of the small acts of love we give & receive every day. Love as a verb can inspire us to be more intentional w/acts of love we sow into the world. 💕

I remember discussing & debating the prospect of this (pre-internet) at @IthacaCollege in 1993. We were hypothesizing potential negative impacts of having so much information coming at us. I recently learned that IC has developed a *much needed* Media Literacy program. ❤️🙏

This. The level of exhaustion that nearly everyone I know (young & old) continuously expresses may have a lot to do with this. It makes a lot of sense.
Our nervous system's didn't evolve to hear everything that is happening in every area of the world. Why Social Media Creates Chronic Dysregulation:

“Sit with people who talk about ideas, not other people.” I’ve thought a lot about this quote lately. There’s more to unpack here than just “gossip” or being kind. An “idea person” is someone who possesses a somewhat natural inclination and talent for generating creative and

This is not an overhaul of everything Balanced Literacy, or a call to run out to buy new programs—rather, it’s an opportunity to do a large-scale gap analysis on where shifts need to be made in our current instruction to align to research & science. #NYSLiteracyInitiative

A huge thanks to @NassauBOCES & @NYSEDNews for the opportunity to hear @NonieLesaux outline the thinking behind the new NY literacy initiative that will help us evolve our literacy instruction. This is not a mere pendulum swing—it is an evolution. 1/2 #NYSLiteracyInitiative
