Fired up! This is the last Penske built chassis to win a race (PC26-05 / St. Louis / Paul Tracy) and is equipped with the 840BHP
@IlmorEngines
built Mercedes-Benz IC108D engine.
As of this morning I am the proud owner of a PC-27. It's still in the US but I can't wait to get into the restoration of this stunning bit of kit! Spoiler alert - it's going to take some time before it turns a wheel.

V8 gear-train. What I particularly like about this arraignment is the large diameter bearings as apposed to using pins and thrust washers. Amazed by the curved joint face to the front cover.

2011. When he arrived he walked to it, crouched down and ran a hand over the sidepod with obvious emotion. It was a pretty special moment to watch and spoke volumes. RIP

in my view the best looking

on aero. Will make sure all others get credit through the process.
More PC23 08. Ex

and also tested by Greg. I love this car, all involved in the restoration put everything into making it right.
Lap for the gods. Was fortunate enough to watch it in person. There was a real buzz in the paddock that day that Mo's record would be broken... Was kind of sad it was but hard to grudge Gil or
@Team_Penske
given it was so bloody fast. Unreal stuff.
As the PC 23 is back on the board of

Just had 20mins running around Jerez in
@ReizaStudios
new Lotus 98T DLC for AMS2 - It's rewardingly close to driving the real thing except for the brakes which are way too good. Good to see they went as far as putting the red ride height control taps in the cockpit. Nice work.
Mercedes DTM front end of 1994 and 1995 could be swapped out in under the 15 minutes allowed to work on the cars between races- an equally amazing achievement. We only managed 35 mins on the car we rebuilt a few years ago but we were being ultra carful.
More Honda V8 F1 engine photos, this time piston and rod. Note the inlet valves are compound angle (the point towards each other) while the exhaust valves are parallel.
Today's been spent building up sub-assemblies like front and rear wings for both speedway and RC trim before mocking up next week. So far most parts fits together (car arrived in bits) with some shorter studs required for the speedway wing adjusters which are horrible to assemble
RA005E photos from the BAR 070 - really impressive the compound angle on the inlet valves is accommodated by the cam lobe rather than the finger follower (exhaust valves are parallel). General quality of machining is A++ for the era.
Patrick Morgan, son of Ilmor co-founder Paul Morgan, recounts the unusual tale of his acquisition and restoration of the last winning Penske IndyCar chassis, the PC26. Includes an evocative film of the restored car in action

Points awarded for correct identifications!
Honda's 2 stage telescopic variable trumpet system - BAR 070 from 2005. A wonderful solution with each trumpet floating in a wider housing to alleviate the problem of aluminium having a high expansion rate with temp vs carbon which is zero or neg.

tub this afternoon before collection tomorrow morning... I feel the next few days are going to be good, actually bolting stuff in will feel fantastic after months of putting finished parts in draws. Then it gets harder going again...
On the engine front the next thing to go on is the centre V cover - encloses the pump pack. From front to rear - water pump, oil pressure, head scav (inside the filter), centrifuge and cam drive shaft. All in the V for narrow sump and max underwing tunnel width.

A rather messy morning glueing engine mounts in. Bulkhead and engine are mounted to cold cure overnight before removal tomorrow for laminating and autoclave.
Reunited with an old friend - angled joint face Conrod from 2003 FO110P (MP4-18). Angling the stud dropped the crank CL by 4mm. I did the reliability work on it which was a lot of fun.

rules - I was staggered when Ferrari and Renault came out with a conventual turbo in 2014. I was just screwing around drawing for fun but it didn't occur to me to do anything other than a split compressor and turbine.
I think it's fair to say this weekend was challenging for everyone at
@fosgoodwood
The difficulty was more than offset by spending time with Casey, Adriana and Chris Hillard. Would also like to thank Neil and Jo Pallet for helping me out. Thank you all.
Gearbox and rear suspension of the BAR070. This was during re-assembly so the heave damper is not fitted but you can see the clevises. The bump dampers are very compact.
Aside from being about the best few closing laps in history, you could not ask for a better demonstration of why DRS is so fake & unnecessary. Is there a pass? No. On the edge of your seat? Absolutely. Helped enormously by the fantastic camera angles and prefect cross cutting.
Possibly one of the most memorable

Dear Heinz Harald - I *may* be able to help on the engine front. I do have all the wiring looms and possibly an ECU. To explain, you knew my father, Paul Morgan. Please get in touch via DM or email, I would like to help you if I can. Regards, Patrick
On an ancient laptop I found this photo of the inlet system I designed for the 2001 Aurora IRL engine to accommodate split injector fuel system. Total gain approx 33BHP. The transparent pipes are for idle ballance but we didn't race them for fear the whole thing might be banned.

The story of the PC23 Beast is laid out in

That is what we had to start with for the MP4-16 engine project. The FO110-K (FK for short) engine was more than a spacer but less then a complete engine. It was more of a restoration than a rebuild.
The best, most complicated project we've ever done. An EPIC EPIC bit of kit. The livery may be underated (I disagree) but it took me 10 days straight to sticker it. Every D2 was placed based on period photos. There were over 1000.
There’s just something about this era of DTM C-Class that fills us with joy. Is it the buzzing hornet’s nest under the bonnet, or the fact that we all had a mate’s dad with their pride and joy of a C-Class or is it one of the most underrated liveries of all time?

Finished the V4 today. In theory the weight saving overall is around 14kg. It is hands down the best road bike I have ridden. It feels like an RSV4 but with more grunt.
