One wonders: Why is only 1 company in India making AZ vaccine? why are none making Moderna or Pfizer? Well, it's about monopolies you see... @Laurie_Garrett we can agree Modi govt failure is key and that it is ALSO about patents AND tech transfer all at once. #Complexity

The #vaccine shortage in #India is not about patents or WTO -- India is the world's #1 vaccine maker. It's about the incompetence of the Modi govt & failure to order #COVID19 vaccines, according to CEO of India's Serum Inst.

Diplomacy continues even in a global pandemic. To make progress on sensitive geopolitical issues, in-person meetings are sometimes required. The health & wellbeing of all staff, attendees, and the public is our top priority. Here's how we'll run a COVID-secure #G7 meeting

Slovakia’s drug regulator previously rejected a batch of Sputnik V for being substantively different than the batches reported in Lancet. The EMA has also said they have insufficient safety and QC data to authorize it in the EU.

I keep thinking about the inspiring AIDS activists who first challenged TRIPS; how research, films and books rightly recognize the activists as heroes & big pharma/WTO as villains. Wouldn't world and health leaders rather be heroes than villains?

Unbelievable: Bill Gates says vaccine formulas shouldn’t be shared with developing world. Surprised with the muted response from otherwise very vocal #globalhealth Twitter. How can you call for vaccine equity and have no reaction to this? https://t.co/jld0KgSyiW

Oh the paternalism and arrogance and dismissiveness of "there's only so many (safe) vaccine factories in the world" nonsense - breathtaking. Glad it's caught on tape. #VaccinEquity

But what the business class travellers fail to realize is that the plane will only take off after ALL passengers board and have their seat belts on. As long as there is vaccine INequity, this pandemic will not end, neither for the rich, nor for the poor.

Watching pictures of Americans, British, Canadians get vaccinated is like waiting in economy line & watching business class board. By the time economy class boards, business class has their seat belts on, drinking champagne, munching warm cashews, looking at the menu. #inequity

Before #COVID19, the thinking in global health was that travel measures carried harms for little benefit. Then the pandemic happened and turned that upside down. Why? I took a look at Vietnam, a country of 97 million with 2700 Covid cases & 35 deaths đŸ§ĩ https://t.co/wE8QNrrvGa
