Care workers make all other work possible, and as @davidcgrabowski said, "Foreign-born workers are a big part of that backbone. Without them, we’d have huge staffing shortfalls and individuals’ quality of care and quality of life would be worse." https://t.co/3rD8MGnuTY

Older Americans are exposed to considerable financial risk from long-term care needs. @ipogadog and @chvanhoutven make the case for expanding coverage of paid home care through Medicare.

Expanding Medicare to cover the cost of long-term care at home would be a HUGE development. Great quote: “There isn’t a lot in the world of health policy that does this well with such a broad swath of the electorate.” @CitizenCohn https://t.co/jFSriqaMho

More research is needed to understand why I-SNPs enter certain markets and why dual-eligible long-stay nursing home residents choose to enroll in them; to assess I-SNP enrollment barriers; and to compare hospital admission rates & quality outcomes by I-SNP enrollment status. END/

Availability of I-SNPs is very concentrated. Nearly 70% of nursing homes did not have any long-stay residents enrolled in I-SNPs in 2021, and in more than 60% of US counties, there were no I-SNPs available. 4/

I-SNPs are special type of MA plan in which enrollees are long-stay nursing home residents. Key difference relative to regular MA plan is that the I-SNP provides for on-site nurse practitioners in nursing home to help improve primary care, care planning & care coordination. 2/

We need more legal immigration of health care workers. I have argued this for quite a while. There are really no serious counterarguments apart from those of special interests. @DavidCGrabowski

This @BostonGlobe OpEd is spot-on. Immigration won't solve the health care worker shortage but it can be a part of the solution. And, this is not just true for hospitals. Link below to our work on benefits of immigration for nursing home staffing & quality https://t.co/v5CCwmoDKP
