Gum arabic is in so many things we consume on a daily basis and Sudan produces 70-80% of it. It gets smuggled out of Sudan to countries in the region like Chad and Kenya who then export it as their own, but its a significant resource fueling/funding the war (1/2)
Gum arabic is used in many everyday items, from food to paint, yet researchers say it is playing a role in Sudan’s war. Al Jazeera’s Hala Saadani explores how the industry is sustaining the conflict.

Colonial imagination has long dictated the way we understand indigeneity, mostly as a passive recipient. Even though in reality, it's a constant negotiation. While Islam is imagined as a superficial foreign veneer that was imposed upon indigenous beliefs and culture

anarchists have been consistently anti-imperialist, decolonial, and in favor of national liberation - although always recognizing the need to go beyond national liberation. here's a brief global history of anarchist anti-imperialist practice https://t.co/bLiU1pF1Av

Reflecting on the current US invasion, I always come back to this analysis by Stephen Gill on the social reproduction of the global world order. His and Isabella Bakker's use of social reproduction analytical concept is such a rare contribution in the field of IR.

It was such an honor for me to be in conversation with @LalehKhalili, someone I deeply admire and respect, about empire, capital, sudan and the uae in the Fumnambulist.

If anyone is interested in the fundamental point about Marxism doing historically rooted science, read this article by the late, great Michael Burawoy. He develops it deeply here. To my mind, this is the best thing Burawoy ever wrote, which is saying a lot given his output.
The fundamental challenge for Marxism is that it's in dialog with the past in search of future possibilities in the contradictions of the present. Therefore the its object of analysis (due to capitalism's dynamism) is always a moving target.

Great first article in what’s shaping up to be a pioneering special issue with (hopefully) an essay from me too
Is infrastructure sabotage always a destructive act led by seditious individuals? no my new article in @HGJournal studies Colombian public sector workers ‘breaking’ infrastructure to oppose privatization in 1992, and argues sabotage can reshape policies, politicize society & more
