Sign language AI is dominated by hearing, non-signing researchers. What kinds of systemic biases does this introduce in the field's collective direction? To find out, read our preprint, with @aashaka_desai @mdemeulder @jahochcam and Annemarie Kocab! https://t.co/xuUejxU1q2

The crazy part about the $83.3M verdict against Trump is that it probably would have been a lot higher but his dick is so small that Ms. Carrol couldn't say for sure that it wasn't his finger so the jury gave him a break.

Gene therapy improves hearing levels. This was reported in an AP press article. I went to the source in Lancet journal. Abstract only, not full access. Profoundly deaf (~95dB) to hard of hearing (~45dB) is still not a cure.

I don’t think enough people appreciate the fact that the ONLY two deaf people to ever compete in Amazing Race both made to the top 3. Deaf people are usually - maybe naturally - hard workers. Oriented to details. We kick ass. Let’s go Rob and Corey!

Evidence of the health benefits of signed and spoken language bilingualism continues to accrue. Families need not be constrained into choosing a single modality for their child’s communication.

Longstanding bias against ASL is well documented and has contributed to incomplete language acquisition and additional disabilities in some children who rely only on hearing aids or CIs for spoken language acquisition

In this way, ASL may provide the necessary linguistic input to prevent the risk of language deprivation.43,44 Many are unaware that the historical paradigm of choosing either signed language or spoken language is a false dichotomy.
