Kenneth was born Wu Kin-Kyan (伍建沾) in 1922 in Namtu, Burma. He studied at Rangoon University before the Japanese invasion in April 1942 forced him to flee to Yunnan. He enrolled at the National Southwest Associated University 西南聯大 in Kunming

Captain Bertrand R. Brinley issued a correction. He commended Wu as the “star Chinese interpreter” for the UN Armistice Delegation throughout the 25-month armistice negotiation process. Wu “represented the only constant link of understanding" between the UNC and the Chinese.

OTD, 1953.07.27. The Korean Armistice Agreement was signed in Panmunjom. Chinese interpreter Pu Shan 浦山 (Harvard PhD '49), UNC interpreter Kenneth Wu 伍建沾 guided the two generals on where to sign their names on the documents in three languages. LIFE misidentified Kenneth Wu.
