The nuclear family isn’t the ideal. It’s the minimum. For most of human history, families weren’t isolated units of mom, dad, and a couple kids trying to survive on their own. They were multi-generational teams. Grandparents helping raise kids. Parents building households.

I changed my opinion when I read that all the OT covenants God made were extended to offspring by faith. Then in the NT, in response to those who believed "the promise is to you and your household". Yes, new believers needed to be baptized. the promise was to their household too.

God works through those of faith and their offspring. Covenants from Adam to the new covenant were to a person and their household. Baptism is a sign of the new covenant, and we are mandated to do it. Children of believers are holy, they are included in the covenant(baptize!)
