The “official” data also wasn’t very official. .
Yesterday, the College Sports Commission said it has cleared 8,359 deals. Today, that shrunk to 6,090. #FuzzyMath

Real comforting when the company you are spending a ton of money on to audit your process screws up the data. Blow the whole thing up.
The College Sports Commission clarifies NIL Go data that it released earlier this week. There were reporting errors from Deloitte on the previously released data. Here's an update on numbers

🚨 Official and third-party NIL Go data is damning:. ▪️Only 6.5% of collective deals approved.▪️62% stuck in purgatory.▪️1 deal waiting 37+ days for review.▪️CSC omitting total submissions. Result: Athletes lose out on opportunities during college careers.

The Weekly Longer NIL Thought. The College Sports Commission (CSC) finally released its first comprehensive data report from NIL Go, and frankly, the numbers tell a story of institutional dysfunction...

Not going to edit the post. But meant to write antitrust, not antritrust. Smh.

Shifting to a single transfer portal will likely result in an antritrust challenge that it restricts athlete mobility. It wasn't long ago that the NCAA lost on enforcing eligibility restrictions on multi-time transfers. Wouldn't be surprised if @mccuskeyforwv is closely watching.
The NCAA FB Oversight Committee voted today to support a single transfer portal in January, sources tell @YahooSports, ushering in a significant change. The Administrative Committee still needs to formally adopt the change later. The 10-day window is expected to open Jan. 2.

This remains one of if not the best college football multi-year #NIL deals to date. Thanks to the @YMAPAAsports team for including me as legal counsel.
Naomi Mensah raised 4 kids herself in low-income housing, filed for bankruptcy, had her car repossessed & used food stamps. In a rags-to-riches tale only possible in this new era, Darian Mensah became a millionaire overnight to change his family forever.

CSC data notably excludes the number of deals submitted, intentionally avoiding criticism for the massive backlog. Blames others for delays.

Based on new CSC data, 120 of the 332 denied deals originate from 25 #NIL collectives. I assume many of the other rejected deals concern collective transactions. No cases have gone to arbitration. Escalation is something to monitor closely.
The College Sports Commission has released its first batch of full data, revealing that 8,359 deals worth $79.8 million were cleared from its inception in June through August, 332 not cleared, 75 re-submitted and 0 have gone to arbitration.

Ross Dellenger adds commentary to the issues surrounding EA Sports' new agreement, with the main takeaway being that athletes need competent counsel to review the terms before agreeing to anything:
New sports biz, bites & booze for @On3Sports:. 🎮 EA Sports’ newest video game contract sent to players may trigger one big complication.💵 Collectives say $11M in deals sent to NIL Go were denied or are under review .🇵🇭 Filipino food in C-Bus?!.

62% of #NIL deals submitted to NIL Go by 25 collectives are still under review. Only 25 of the 384 submitted contracts have been approved. If that doesn't highlight the inefficiencies in this process. .
Here is the data released by 25 NIL collectives of submitted deals to NIL Go (384), those approved (25), denied (120) & under review (239), as well as recommendation on changes to the College Sports Commission process

Nothing prevents a brand from sponsoring a pro team and also signing endorsement deals with athletes on that team, so why should that be any different in college sports?. Bottom-line: These third-party #NIL deals should not be subject to the CSC's "valid business purpose" and.
As @Brett_McMurphy first reported, Penn State is on the verge of switching from Nike to Adidas. Sources tell @On3sports the deal includes a "significant" NIL component, similar to Tennessee's recent deal. Details:

Also WILD: Every school "NIL contract" also includes a clause that the player only gets paid as long as he's still with the program. Often includes buyout, clawback, and/or liquidated damage clauses. Yet, not a pay-for-play contract? Hmm. .
This story is WILD. There is a clause that says Kawhi Leonard only gets paid as long as he is still with the Clippers. Great work @pablofindsout.

The NCAA can't be trusted with an antitrust exemption. It will immediately seek to restrict athletes' capacity to earn money, build businesses, and develop as entrepreneurs. Immunity against legal action is rarely granted. I agree with Cody Campbell.
It is no surprise that the NCAA is a huge advocate for the SCORE Act. After all, it allows them to override the multitude of court cases they’ve lost (including at the Supreme Court, where they lost 9-0). They want to resume the business or policing, punishing, and restricting

In pro sports, the league and players voluntarily sign a collective bargaining agreement with penalties for circumventing the cap. In college sports, the NCAA does not bargain with players on rules regulating the profession. Rules are unilaterally imposed. Results in litigation.
Exclusive: Kawhi Leonard signed a $28M endorsement deal for a "no-show job" with a fraudulent tree-planting company funded by $50M from Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, according to documents obtained by @PabloTorre. "It was to circumvent the salary cap," an inside source says.

Vanderbilt players Langston Patterson and Issa Ouattara are leading a class action antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA, challenging the redshirt rule that forces athletes to choose between playing as freshmen or preserving a 5th season. The suit claims the NCAA's restriction on

It's funny that we continue to call this "NIL" instead of referring to it properly as a salary. Money paid directly from schools to athletes is just as much "pay-for-play" as dollars flowing from collectives. Oftentimes, the money originates from the same source -- boosters. #NIL.
AJ McCarron on @McCreadySiskey: "You look at these other teams that have $40-50 million in NIL. Alabama -- and I know this for a fact, talking to multiple people in the program -- Alabama has less than $20 million in their NIL.".
