I rode around Houston and sat with one of celebrity jeweler Johnny Dang’s closest associates, and then caught up with the ‘King of Bling’ himself. They explained to me why the Grizzlies might be the flashiest NBA team off the floor, just like on it.
Story:
Dillon Brooks said it was a “low blow” for Draymond Green to try to put his Grizzlies teammates against him when he made his podcast comments.
“I ain’t out there getting into physical altercations with my teammates.”
Absolute madness. Shannon Sharpe was talking to Ja Morant, then Steven Adams walked over in front of Ja Morant. Tee Morant and Shannon Sharpe then had words before Sharpe was escalated off the floor.
Ja Morant gifted 11-year old Ellie Hughes a pair of his Ja 1 sneakers and an autographed jersey after his 38-point game. Morant told her that she’s one of just a few people in the world who have the shoe.
Hughes reportedly had her basketball stolen at the Grizz game on Monday.
Ja Morant said he tried to talk Jayson Tatum into missing those late free throws in the finals second. Morant said Tatum told him that he had to make it back home to put Deuce to sleep.
Dillon Brooks speaking about if he was disappointed to hear that Stephen Curry won’t play on Christmas.
“I got Klay. I like that matchup better, because he was talking a little smack when we lost. I’ll just show him what type of defense I got.”
Christmas Day.
Ja Morant came out to the Mt. Moriah Precinct court today, played 1v1 vs. some kids and Griddy’d his way onto the court. These are the moments the kids in Memphis will always remember, like how when Zach Randolph & Penny would just casually show up at schools. Memphis’ superstar.
Mike Conley had a game yesterday in PHX and he has a flight to LA in 30 minutes for shootaround tomorrow morning. Two west coast games didn’t stop Conley from making the trip from Memphis in between games for Marc Gasol’s jersey retirement ceremony.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
Tennessee football, basketball (men and women), baseball and softball all have top 15 teams at their respective sports right now. This is an unreal run by the Vols.
I can 100% tell you that there are some older people in Ja Morant’s circle who have had these talks with him. It’s all up to him at this point. He has to realize what is at stake. That just doesn’t seem to be the case right now, and it could damage something special in Memphis.
Ja Morant:
“Killing their spirits, you know, we try to do that with every team we play. Go out and send a message, keep our foot on the gas. Then we start having a little bit of fun while we out there, and then we gone let you hear about it as well.”
🥶
NEWS:
ESPN is putting together an exclusive all-access day for the Memphis Grizzlies ahead of their matchup vs. the Brooklyn Nets on March 23. Some ESPN shows will be filming in Memphis.
ESPN hasn’t done a day like this for an NBA team in 4 years
Story:
Jaren Jackson Jr. was asked what’s different about the team without Ja Morant playing.
Ja Morant as he’s walking by in the background:
“Just tell ‘em y’all 20-5!”
Desmond Bane:
“I pride myself on being healthy, and getting hurt, kind of tweaking my back at a time like this kind of shows me that I probably got to do more in the off-season to be able to withstand the long minutes and long season.”
Ja Morant said if he had that same situation late in OT, he would pass to Ziaire Williams again.
“If it’s anybody you want to be mad at, it can be me. I had nine turnovers.”
Wow. Shannon Sharpe just got into it with Ja Morant. A whole bunch of people had to be separated courtside, including Steven Adams and Tee Morant. Madness.
Giannis Antetokounmpko gave a real long and detailed answer on winning a championship in a small market. He said he believes that is something Ja Morant can do.
Desmond Bane deserves his national respect after that series. He just shot 50-48-90 on 24 points per game against a legit defense that made it a focal point to slow him down later in the series. He’ll be playing in Memphis alongside Ja Morant for a long time. He was the MVP.
Ja Morant said it was time for a new grill…
The Grizzlies’ All-Star locked in with Johnny Dang for the 1st Ever Flawless Hybrid-Invisible Set: Carré cut + Princess Cut. 🔥🔥🔥
Ja Morant said the Defensive Player of the Year vote should be split between Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks. I told him I could only vote for one.
He said to vote for Jaren Brooks. 😂
I asked Dillon Brooks about how teams are responding to the Grizzlies’ talkative identity:
“I feel like this season when we get talked back to, we just freeze up.”
Ja Morant speaking about the third quarter confrontation with Andrew Nembhard. He said Nembhard told his father, Tee, to “shut up,” and that’s when Morant walked up to him.
“I checked his temperature. He didn’t have a fever.”
Ja Morant hinted in Cleveland on Thursday to reporters that there was something going on behind the scenes. He called the Grizzlies “the most hated.”
“It’s a little situation going on now, I ain’t gone speak on it yet. If some sh*t don’t change, y’all gone hear me speak on it.”
My barber told me someone who works with the Sixers organization wanted to bring Ben Simmons to the barbershop.
“I told him hell no! He can’t come here.”
Another barber: “He can offer me $1,000 and I still wouldn’t cut his hair. I don’t want his money.”
Philly is different.
News:
The Memphis Grizzlies are debuting their new 2022-23 City Edition jerseys on Friday against the Timberwolves. The goal of the jersey was to capture the hip-hop culture of Memphis. The team contacted many of the biggest rappers.

Here’s a video that Subtweet Shawn, who is one of the creators of the “Rock Ya Hips” dance, sent to me. This was after Ja Morant did the dance during Tuesday’s win against the Pelicans.
It has been a lot of talk about the celebration Ja Morant did late in OT against the Pelicans on Tuesday.
Here’s an explanation on the dance he was actually doing and more.

Ja Morant on Derrick Rose: “He really made it to where people believe in guys like me. Coming in, athletic guards, I felt like he was pretty much the one who kind of made it more famous.“
Memphis legends.
My only bold prediction for the Lakers-Grizzlies series:
Dillon Brooks will find a way to top this moment with LeBron James. I don’t what it will be or how, but this is my bold prediction😂
My big brother gained his wings. Please keep my family in prayers. I’m going to take some time away and unfortunately, I won’t be at All-Star Weekend in SLC. My brother was always bragging to people about my work, so it’s only right that I continue to make him proud. Much love ❤️
Tyrese Maxey said after the Sixers beat the Grizzlies, his teammates were in the locker room talking about Ja Morant.
“We were just talking about how in awe you are of it because it’s just not natural.”
Taylor Jenkins is not happy.
“In my opinion one of the most poorly officiated games in my career.”
“It’s embarrassing.”
Taylor Jenkins says he’ll take whatever hits the NBA gives him.
The top point guard in the class of 2021, Raven Johnson, is making history today as the first woman to ever integrate a men’s basketball All-American basketball game. She’s headed to

I asked Ja Morant about this today.
In part, here’s what he said:
“I’m going to let Memphis handle all that for me. I know they got my back and I love it and appreciate them for it.”
GG Jackson said Giannis was pinching him in his sides and nudging him during one of the timeouts while GG was talking to Taylor Jenkins.
“I was telling him my core not that strong yet. That stuff hurts.”
Grizzlies just swept a road trip against two of the top five seeds in the Eastern Conference. Third youngest roster in the NBA. Five players in health and safety protocols. Six straight wins overall.
This is some impressive stuff.
Jaren Jackson Jr. said there was a big lesson everyone should take away from him discussing Ja Morant on the

“No matter what, I stand by my brother.”
Story:
A man is walking through the pinnacle level at FedExForum loudly chanting, “let’s go Warriors” in the face of some Grizzlies fans. Somebody need to pull him to the side before he run into the wrong South Memphis dude that had a bad day at work 😂
NATIONAL TV UPDATE:
The Memphis Grizzlies vs Boston Celtics game on March 3 is replacing Miami Heat vs Brooklyn Nets
Grizzlies get another national TV game.
I asked Ja Morant if he preferred his alley-oop dunk or the block. Before he chose the block, he said this:
"Des (Bane) making dude do the butterfly. I thought we was at a cookout."
For the 1st time, Ja Morant is in the top 10 in the NBA in jersey sales via the NBA store. The results are from Oct. 19-Jan. 12. He’s ranked 7th, ahead of players like Trae Young, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis.

Kenneth Lofton Jr.:
“I just thank each and every fan out there in Memphis that’s supporting me. All over the world also. I’m coming to Memphis to be great and show what I have.”
First time in franchise history the Memphis Grizzlies have two players in the NBA All-Star game. The wildest part? Desmond Bane was playing at an All-Star pace before spraining his right big toe. The future is bright in Memphis.
Taylor Jenkins met with the Grizzlies as a team and he met with Ja Morant separately today after an ESPN article was published detailing Morant’s last 18 months.
His message?
“I want him to know he’s got 100% support from us and his teammates.”
Story:
Ja Morant to the Jazz bench:
“All y’all can get it.”
“I’m with all that.”
Jordan Clarkson is talking back by doing the sleeping motion with his hands. He’s been ejected after a flagrant-2 foul.
Ja Morant on the Grizzlies-Spurs game being removed off ESPN in favor of the Knicks-Heat:
“Shout out to whoever took us off TV. Appreciate you for that. That game right there was for you too.”
Dillon Brooks guarded Zion Williamson in the last Grizzlies-Pelicans matchup. I asked him about his physicality and D-Lo’s recent Zion take.
Brooks: “I play football, too.”
“He’s playing football, we playing basketball. We can’t touch him or guard him, so good for him.” - D-Lo after Zion's 43-point career night
