In 1996, Congress imposed a lifetime ban on people convicted of a drug felony from receiving SNAP and/or TANF. Last week, @SenBooker and @SenatorWarnock made an impassioned plea to repeal the ban in this year’s Farm Bill.

SIGN ON LETTER for Clinicians and Academics: Tomorrow there will likely be a Floor vote in the House to place xylazine (currently unscheduled) into the CSA and make it a Schedule III drug. This is a bad move for treatment & research. Let me explain. 🔗 https://t.co/9zNEHR2BA1

Combating Illicit Xylazine Act is "gaining momentum," writes Andrew Kaleigh of @DrugPolicyOrg. "Criminalizing xylazine will only add further charges against people already facing opioid-related charges." "We must not repeat the mistakes that led us here." https://t.co/Hu4aG1corb

Rescheduling marijuana is recriminalization of existing state markets. Any action by @POTUS other than working "with Congress to deschedule the substance...will only continue the failed and unjust status quo." @MariPerMed @CannabisFreedo1 @NewsweekOpinion https://t.co/Ge5z1LHJ3r

We're organizing to end the war on drugs here in Vermont. It's long past time for our state to invest in a public health approach to substance use disorder. Join us in this work by going to https://t.co/MtG3J7LXil.

We may look different, but the fight to end the drug war hasn’t changed! We are building a future where drug policy is grounded in evidence, health, equity, and human rights. Period. (Video is narrated by our Executive Director @Kassandra_Fred) https://t.co/Paf5wFVm2i

Everyone should be able to access basic needs, especially food, regardless of felony drug convictions. The RESTORE Act was introduced to lift the #SNAP Felony Drug Ban. Tell your member of Congress to take action. #PassRestoreAct https://t.co/S53TPLSz1b

Stopping people from getting SNAP just because they have a past drug conviction is not just cruel, it's bad policy. We know hunger & poverty increase risk of recidivism. SNAP helps formerly incarcerated folks reenter their communities successfully. https://t.co/C3pII6rTKb

No one should be denied basic needs like food. Yet for decades, Congress has banned people with felony drug convictions from accessing #SNAP or food stamps. The RESTORE Act is a new bill that would finally end this cruel ban. Tell Congress to support it today!

The fear of being criminalized often leads to unnecessary deaths, because people are too scared to call 911 for help when someone is experiencing an overdose. These same fears also deter people from accessing supportive services, like overdose prevention centers, syringe service

On #NationalFentanylAwarenessDay, we urge Congress to take bold steps and transform our criminal-legal system into one that delivers true justice and equality. This Congress should not repeat its past mistakes when it comes to policy responses to fentanyl and its analogues.

Great insights from @DrugPolicyOrg @DPA_OFA Dir @MariPerMed on @KennedyNation last night on why supply-side interdiction will do nothing to curb supply of illicit fentanyl, & in fact, will only make the drug supply more dangerous & lead to more OD deaths.

“Simply put: Crackdowns put us in a game of whack-a-mole. When we try to eradicate one drug, a new one comes up." - @DrugPolicyOrg @DPA_OFA Dir. @MariPerMed in @nytimes on why #Xylazine crack-downs will lead to even more unknown drug supply & cost lives.

Drug dealers are mixing xylazine, an animal tranquilizer relied on by veterinarians, into fentanyl, with deadly results. But controlling it is tricky.
