If you’re reading this and don’t know who Bushwick Bill was, take 2 mins to google him and find out. He’s about as unique a character as you’ll ever discover. And overcame a ridiculous amount of adversity. He literally already died once before.
I’m staying in a hotel for old people right next door to where I DJ’d last night (by the beach in Devon). And the conversation in the breakfast room is entirely about how disturbing the music from outside was last night. Everyone in the room is agreeing. 😬
Do you know how good it feels to be a hip-hop DJ who doesn’t have to play any Tyga or 6ix9ine? And who is free to play as much Mobb Deep or Beatnuts as I like? I say this not to boast, but out of gratitude
The best DJ in the world right now is DJ Koco from Japan. He only plays 45s (7” records). No Serato or computers. He uses an old mixer with no bells & whistles. And he’s not on Twitter. You can check him out on Instagram. There are lessons to be learned there!
Wiley - clearly dealing with mental health/drug problems. What’s more disappointing to me is:
- racist nutters crawling out of the woodwork on his responses
- low-level racist media reporting (The Guardian: “Wiley accused of anti-semitism”)
- silence from the grime community
It’s a very weird feeling to DJ for 8000 people on the internet for 2 hours and then just turn off the computer and sit in silence in a room alone haha 😂
Regarding the pronunciation of the letter H: I notice all you morons who say “Haitch” instead of “Aitch” give that shit up when you say “NHS”. No-one’s saying “Enn HAITCH Ess” are they?
It's a very meaningful day for me today - the 20th ANNIVERSARY of the release of How To Cut & Paste Vol. 1! Happy birthday to the mix that launched my pro career.
SOMEBODY went and uploaded my entire OLD SCHOOL DRUM & BASS/JUNGLE live mix that I did earlier this summer onto YouTube. With no copyright audio drop-outs. THIS IS COMPLETELY ILLEGAL AND I’M FURIOUS. Here’s the link
Oh no. Rest in peace to Double K of People Under The Stairs, who I worked with on my very first piece of music production “Quid Control”. A great MC and a great guy.
And my point was that it is more depressing to me that countless grime artists, who all shouted about BLM, are conspicuously silent today. Being anti-racist includes fighting antisemitism. I can’t find one big grime artist deploring Wiley today.
The world of EDM DJs has become like the WWF wrestlers I remember from the 90s. Everyone has masks, suits and gimmicks. It’s hilarious, but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with actual DJing or music
I'm friends with an old Indian lady who lives locally and knows what I do. She has been sending me her favourite Bollywood videos on a daily basis for about 6 months now. So I have an entire Bollywood show ready to go. Would anyone have interest in this?!
“The How To Cut & Paste Collection:20 Years Of DJ Yoda Mixes”
20 DJ Yoda mixes + special extra surprises
Audio Cassette-shaped USB
Out April 12, same day as my new album! 💥
The first Glastonbury I played at, the security didn’t believe I was DJing and I couldn’t get hold of anyone to prove it. So I scaled the fence (with a record box). Might be the most athletic thing I’ve ever done
I think in difficult times like these, we all need to ask ourselves: what would Paul Robinson do? I mean, he was a successful businessman. He owned Lassiters and whatnot. What would HE do?
I feel like taking legendary golden era American rappers to small Somerset village fairs might be the reason I was put on this planet.
Here we see Ed OG at the Packhorse Fair in Bruton.
So saddened this morning to hear about the passing of skilled hip-hop producer Paul Nice from Poughkeepsie.
I have a long and interesting history with this guy, including A&Ring this album.
If you had been DJing for 25 years, week in, week out, would you respond to a man on Facebook who is complaining that you didn’t cut and scratch enough in your set in a club last night
I’m always a huge fan of very old men unknowingly wearing cool trainers (one day I will be compiling a coffee table book), but for now here’s a great example of an OAP in pristine Air Force 1’s. Enjoy
All this time during lockdown, I've been slowly working on a new album. I just recorded I think my favourite scratches I've ever done in a song. This is of no consequence to anybody until you can hear it, which will be another few months. Thanks for your time reading this and bye
Here’s what to do if you find a Jungle Brother sitting in an office chair in front of you.
(You can watch me and Baby Bam tear down stages this weekend - Saturday night with Pharcyde at Earth in Dalston, Sunday at Funk & Soul Weekender on Brighton Beach) 🎤🎧
@DJYodaUK
I'll add to it, your set was the best hip-hop set I've ever seen. If you want to keep it as an event only mix I understand but on the off chance you recreate it for release it I can't wait to experience it again, keep being awesome ❤️
For anyone gearing up for
@glastonbury
- here’s where you can find me on Friday. Not a whole lot of hip-hop this year, so I’m gonna do my best to represent the genre by cramming 50 years of beats into 90 minutes! Hope to see some of you there - I can’t wait… 🎧🎉🎪
I had TONNES more to play as well. Boooo. Hey would anyone be into me doing this reggae set again - and properly this time - on TWITCH another night this week? Like this tweet if that sounds like a thing
Dropping my first mixtape for ages tomorrow, and I’m excited to hear what you think about it. I tried to make a mix that is fun, will make you laugh, but also has some last-ability...
#MakeMixtapesGreatAgain
I can’t reminisce on any stories right now. I can’t make a tribute mix. I have nothing because Biz Markie is my favourite musician and the reason I have led this life.
One lifetime is not enough time to hear all the music/read all the books/eat all the food/watch all the films that I need to. Never mind make all the stuff I want to. Does anyone else panic about this kind of thing?
None of Biz’s best music is on streaming services. If you don’t know Biz Markie and want to check out his music today - this is my favourite album (of all time)

🙄 not gonna respond to anyone on this. I’m not on Twitter for politics, and I think I slipped up by even commenting. 5 mins after the tweet and already too many people missing the point, misunderstanding, or just more racism. Twitter is stupid platform for nuanced debate
Totally floored by the MF DOOM news. I chatted to him over email about working with him on my Chop Suey album - it never happened, and I’m so gutted now. What an incredible body of work. Legend.
This will only appeal to hardcore
@Eminem
fans, but it occurred to me that I was at the legendary show in San Francisco 1999 where he scuffled with the audience, and recorded some audio, so I uploaded it for posterity
@ShadyFansite
One is the biggest joys in my life is that every now and then I get a randomphone call from Biz Markie, just checking in. The 15 year old me still can’t believe it!
Just to explain, in simple terms, what I’m doing tonight : DJing inside a large dome, like a planetarium, in Cardiff. My visuals will be stretched round an immersive 360 degree screen. No live audience, but the whole thing will be streamed LIVE on Twitch at 8pm. Thanks!
