People have been warning me since I started on the healthcare beat that the JPMorgan conference is an insane circus characterized by equal parts chaos, opulence and grime. But this year’s event has been surprisingly muted. Here’s my take w/ @CynthiaLKoons

Blame it on lingering Covid fears, stock-market turbulence or even the rain: JPMorgan’s big health-care conference in San Francisco has returned without nearly the opulence or excesses of the years...

This week's @BW issue is dedicated to all the ways this country has economically and politically disenfranchised women. I wrote the cover essay about what so many of us are feeling these days. I hope you like it.

One of the reasons Brazilian Butt Lifts are so dangerous is not necessarily the procedure itself, but the murky regulations around cosmetic procedures in the US. Here's why:

Inadequate regulations make it hard for patients to tell if they are getting a good doctor or a quack.
NEW: The Brazilian butt lift is among the deadliest cosmetic surgeries, but the procedure has only grown more popular

Wow this stat: 1,800 hours!
5/ Breastfeeding is also time intensive and comes with a mental and physical price. A year of breastfeeding adds up to roughly 1,800 hours. It's basically a full-time unpaid job, considering 40-hour work weeks and three weeks of vacation totals 1,960 work hours per year.
