I forget who said it but the best thing to happen to women’s hoops is the rise of (non misogynistic) haters. I’m so glad we are done with the “celebrating women’s sports” bullshit. That’s so patronizing. Real sports spawn legions of team and player-specific HATERS. It’s great.
Source: the start of the Columbia LIU game is delayed 15 minutes because LIU head coach Rod Strickland is delayed due to traffic.
I am not making this up.
My hottest CBB take is that some timber magnate in Maine should pay through the nose to bring Flagg and a few other ballers to UMaine for one year. Play an insane non conference stage all around the country, steamroll the America East, and get a 6 seed, still be the top pick
@Mpfairchild
@UMassFootball
Rather lose every game than support a school that was run by a fraudulent grifter infidelity maven who tells everyone else how to live their life while doing all the things he condemns
Source: in a beautiful twist of internet fate, virtually the entire FDU team is stuck in an elevator **at LIU** and the game is being delayed as a result. What a sport.
This is so embarrassingly petty from ISU. You guys paid him 1/6th what he got at SLU and even if you tripled it you’d be around a million off of what he’s getting now in a better league. He dramatically improved a long struggling program and made you better. Thank him.
Head Coach Josh Schertz declines contract extension, resigns as Indiana State men's basketball head coach.
Thank you for your efforts over the last three seasons with the Sycamores, Coach!

One thing I dig about Louisville is the sheer volume and variety of their fans. You take a look at their bios and some have MAGA, some have rainbow flags, some are truck drivers, some are surgeons, some are black, some are white. All are endearingly batshit. All LOVE their Cards
The thing I love about Crean is that while the other 70K fans in attendance are locked into this game you just know he’s sitting there thinking about the ball screen defense schemes of two middle of the pack MO Valley teams whose game he’s doing on ESPN2 12 days from now
Arkansas fans, it was fun mixing it up with you for the last couple weeks. In the end, you got the coach of my childhood team, a guy who made me fall in love with the sport and is in many ways responsible for the existence of this Twitter account.
Go be great.
BYU is like the hardest team in the country to dislike. Their fans/alums are all like really successful people who also happen to be quite kind and not particularly arrogant about it.
ANY Coach, administrator, or commentator who so much as hints at the idea of reducing the number or percentage of mid and low major teams in the tournament should forever become persona non grata for the rest of their days. It should permanently ruin their legacy. No compromise.
Some personal news: Baby Sage II arrived earlier today. A little guy at 6 pounds 15 ounces, he will be listed at 7’1 on the official family roster. Mom and baby boy are doing well and UMass has yet to lose a basketball game during his time on earth.
Shout out to the members of multiple different faiths for the prayers today for my little man and shout out to the non believers for the thoughts as well. Both meant a ton to me. The

community represents the very best of this country. He’s out of the OR and resting!
@stoolpresidente
Dave as someone who has an entire twitter and podcasting persona built around the Cage please provide the couple hundred thousand bucks necessary that would make the Cage usable for one game a year. Been hounding the administration for years. Could use your support.
Believe it was the Goodman guy and the Ron Dauster dude who went after me for saying Strickland was late for the team bus. Jeff went so far as to track down an official LIU spokesman for comment. Ron said I was threatening Rod’s livelihood. Good times!
This whole time of year just continually reminds me how absolutely insane it is that we’ve just let college football completely drive the bus, something even more insane in the northeast.
@GoodmanHoops
Dude, really? Are you this tone deaf? I never had an issue with you until yesterday but this is beyond egregious. Show some earnest contrition and move on.
This is as cogent and nuanced of a case as I’ve ever heard a coach make about the specific nature of how bad officiating works to hurt small conference programs. Kudos to him for making it. Really good stuff from Gallo. Deft, subtle, convincing.
Merrimack coach Joe Gallo on the technical foul called against him with 1:39 left in Merrimack's 69-67 loss to Georgetown. After Budd Clark was called for a travel, Gallo picked up a towel, wiped his hands, and tossed it back to the bench.
Anthony Grant is a very good basketball coach and it’s WILD to me that a subset of Dayton fans can’t seem to understand that. They’re like all freshman and lost their PG to an injury and got beat by a group of 24 year olds who needed that win to salvage their entire legacy.
Look, everyone knows I'm not a UConn guy but if they win tonight (and kinda even if they don't) it's time to dramatically rehink who qualifies as a blue blood in the year 2024. Because no one has done close to what they've done in the last 25 years. And 25 years is a lot of time.
Pitino said his players knew he was down after the loss against Boston College
Pitino ordered a pizza and Joel Soriano, Daniss Jenkins, and Chris Ledlum rang his doorbell with the pizza
Pitino said he’s never had anything like that happen in his coaching career

Thank you
@CoachMattMcCall
for five years of hard work and ten final days of real moxie and heart. You didn’t deserve it to end like this but I will always remember the way your guys battled for you down the stretch. I will always root for you because you’re a good ass person.
UConn and UMass being the two finalists in the Hockey East title game is GREAT for college sports in New England. Forget BU and BC and Northeastern. These two programs should be the standard in every sport and compete against one another in them too. Period.
Equally grotesque is the extent to which the CBS talking heads are outright shilling for it. You cannot watch a lot of college hoops and actually believe “the committee got it right.” Just absolute lapdogs for the committee.
Two

rules. 1) If your peers in conference say you’d be great for a big job, it’s cause they don’t want to keep getting their ass kicked by you. 2) If your peers aggressively defend you when you’re on the hot seat, it’s cause they want to keep kicking your ass every yr
Casey Alexander on Indiana State coach Josh Schertz:
"Whoever's got a job aught to hire him. First chance. He's great. What he did at Lincoln Memorial and what he's done there (Indiana State) in three years. The guy can coach."
Based on what I’m hearing I’d say there’s a real chance that Chris Beard may be back in the mix tonight at Arkansas. But I say this with the caveat that I remain utterly dumbfounded about what the fuck is going on in Fayetteville at this point
Hurley’s willingness to reimagine his offense the last two years combined with his willingness to continue working on himself as a human being are what took UConn from good to great. That ability to evolve tactically and psychologically is so rare among high level coaches.
Guided to waiting room after my four year old son got wheeled into cardiac surgery, there is one person sitting there. She’s wearing a Boston College sweatshirt. As if this day somehow could get worse.
Was on a phone call when the DM's about this came in and I told the caller "I need to go. I have to process something." I will be processing for the foreseeable future. No further comment at this time.
SOURCE: The Mid-American Conference board today voted to add UMass as a full member, beginning with the 2025-26 academic year.
UMass will join the MAC in all sports (including football), source tells
@TheAthletic
. They've been an FBS independent.
Remember: the league makes money for each tourney game it appears in and that money is spread between teams. Alas, any A10 fan should be rooting for Richmond.
This is genuinely moving. Thank you to anyone and everyone
@UMassAthletics
and
@UMassBasketball
who may have been involved in putting this together. I am deeply touched.
This Bonaventure team in particular is such a perfect antidote to all of the bullshit that defines big time college basketball nationally. Their success is not about facilities, location, coaching staff salaries or any of the things that typically generate sustained success.
If you’re a UMass student, fan, alum, administrator or elected official at the state level w/ some power and you’re enjoying tonight, PLEASE don’t think this can exist without your continued support (emotionally and financially). Sustained success requires sustained investment.
The committee gave us Virginia over Indiana State. A fucking crime. A legitimate act of criminality. And everyone knows it. And no one will do anything to fix it.
Long suffering UMass diehards: DO NOT dissuade any new diehards from jumping all in on UMass fandom by thumbing your nose because you’ve been through the wars. I’ve gained more followers today than in any one day ever and I LOVE seeing all these new fans mixing it up. Welcome!
@rydunleavy
Speaking honestly as an outsider for whom this story just happened to appear on the timeline: I think you’re making much ado about nothing here and it’s in poor taste that you’d publish it. Had the dude said “off the record” and then everything else he said, it’d be totally fair
When Don Brown got the UMass offer Arizona countered by vowing to make him the highest paid assistant in the Pac12. He came to UMass for less money anyway. He loves it as much as we do and that’s why we’re going to win a lot of football games with him.
Source: Mike DeGeorge, who turned D2 Colorado Mesa from afterthought to D2 power after similarly flipping D3 Rhodes College from bad to good, is expected to be named as the next coach at D1 Cal Poly. Very good outside-the-box hire.
I’m so sick and tired of having to pretend ND is a national power every year. They haven’t won a national title in thirty years, haven’t had a Heisman winner in that time either and still have a national TV deal and no conference affiliation. Completely unearned arrogance
Congratulations to
@CoachVerdiUMass
and the entire
@UMassWBB
on a spectacular performance and tournament run and first ever conference championship. UMass fans will never forget this group.
Say what you want about his style, but so much of this piece resonates with me and what I try to do with UMass basketball. When you’re truly passionate about something, you’re incapable of faking it. I only wish UMass hoops has millions of fans to tap into as a market
The myocarditis risk among males 12 to 17 years old after the second dose of the vaccine is 35.9/100,000 but the risk post-infection is 64.9/100,000. I don’t care whether you get vaxxed or not but to automatically assume a heart condition is the result of the vaccine is just dumb
Elon Musk used Bronny James' cardiac arrest event to question the safety of COVID vaccines. Musk suggested the incident could be tied to myocarditis, a known, albeit rare, vaccine side effect. Yet, he offered no empathy or concern for Bronny's health,
Just parked in NYC. It’s now officially my youngest kid’s third birthday. I gotta be up in a few hrs but tonight’s trip to Cambridge was special. It was an evening marked by the power of raw emotion, deep friendship, and a shared love of UMass basketball. Too many of you to thank
Louisville is unlike any other fan base I’ve interacted with on here. Every fan base has its share of amazing people and complete assholes but the high number of people in each of those categories at Louisville feels genuinely different.
MAJOR SCOOP: BC has agreed to play UMass in basketball after both sides agreed to the terms of a five game series late last night. Two in Newton. One in Amherst. Two at the Garden, including the first one which is set for Saturday December 3rd. More to come.
One thing I am starting to believe is that Louisville is conducting the most thorough and professional search in America. Not sure they’ll get the right guy but they’re navigating it with tremendous substance.
The Big East Tournament is one of the best events in all of sports and any coach who genuinely loves college basketball, particularly those with ties to this part of the country, should aspire to work in that league.
I made
@BigEastFilms
and Divine Providence.
Now that the Big East has suspended the account on twitter/X and the series has been cancelled i feel comfortable saying this.
🧵 (i hate threads but i stopped paying for my blog’s domain name, kinda locked in, sorry)
Had a long and stressful day. Lotta shit going on. Walked in around 9 and my son immediately came out to chat. “Dad, I’ve been waiting up to tell you something.” Seemed serious. “OK?”
“I’ve been awake in bed thinking that we should really go to the Fordham URI game Saturday.”
Thank you
@UMassWBB
for putting together the greatest season in school history’s so many great memories and a great effort tonight despite the final outcome.
In 50 years pictures of UMass fans literally hanging out of trees to greet the national champs will adorn the walls of local sports bars. Don’t ever tell me UMass can’t be great in other sports as well. I don’t want to hear it.
