Today, we officially opened our new @ChangingPlaceUK toilet at Abbey House Museum @LeedsMuseums with some pupils from @West_SILC, local councillors, tea and cake. Note the wall handles on the left, a first for #Leeds for assisted changing whilst standing. #toilet #dignity

“Part of the UK’s malaise is our talent for creating the kind of vacuums that are then filled by the worst actors. Our museums, are repositories of real and powerful stories: if they fall into more decay and disrepair, we should all fear the consequences”

Brutal cuts to council budgets have decimated museums and forced some to close. We’re at risk of losing our shared memory, writes Guardian columnist John Harris

It's a good day to be in Leeds. Celebrating the city's anti fascist heritage & raising the profile of the Battle of Holbeck Moor - 30,000 people turned out to tell Oswald Mosley to shift off & a good they did too

Here is the 1875 poster from the fantastically named "Whisker Order" spoofing antiquarians, museums, friendly societies & local politics in #Armley #Leeds. Lots of topical jokes to unpick. @LeedsMuseums

Any experts in #Victorian #sports know how to play "nack"? Knurr & Spell we know well, and it also mentions quoits and cricket. 1875 poster linked to the #Armley Feast and the Union Cross Inn. @LeedsMuseums

@bbcmtd 1. Council's own art in trust for the public 2. Very little, if any council money is spent acquiring art. Acquisitions by most museums are made via private donations, trusts and foundation or @HeritageFundUK 3 I get tedious FOIs at least once a month about these matters
