But a last-minute amendment has been submitted that could trigger a vote, and if not enough MPs are present in the chamber, the Bill could collapse.

On Friday 11 July, the Bill returns to the House of Commons for its Third Reading – the final opportunity for MPs to back this transformational piece of legislation.

6/6: The forthcoming National Cancer Plan must now go further — removing barriers to early diagnosis, supporting the specialist workforce, and ensuring every patient, wherever they live, can access high-quality care and research.

5/6: This Plan sets a welcome direction of travel — but it must now deliver for those facing the toughest challenges. The core of this plan should not be delivered at the expense of addressing the needs of the most complex diseases, of which brain tumours is one.

4/6: However, brain tumours fall into a group of rare and complex diseases that need access to specialised expertise. Only if this plan allows for adequate resourcing and targeted implementation will we see significant improvements for those living with a brain tumour.

3/6: Care closer to home and quicker adoption of technological advances, if rolled out effectively, can be good for brain tumour patients and see improvements across the entire pathway.

2/6: For the 88,000 people in the UK living with a brain tumour — and the many more who will be diagnosed in the years ahead — the need for progress is urgent.
