Rest In Peace Sir Frank. What a contribution he made to the sport we all love. What a truly remarkable and incredible human being. I’ll never forget the sparkle in his eyes when he talked about the great drivers who raced for him. He adored F1, we adored him. An absolute legend x
Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari! Always thought it would happen one day, finally it will and it seems as early as 2025. Seismic move just as it was when Lewis joined Mercedes and like then I don’t see the negatives. But wow, undoubtedly the biggest transfer on transfer deadline day!
Rest in Peace Murray Walker, a gentleman and a legend in every sense of the word. It was an honour to know you, a delight to spend time in your company and inspiring to listen and learn from you. THE voice of Formula 1 and always will be. Thankyou xx
Whilst a full explanation of what happened yesterday is always welcome, there are lots of words in this statement. Surely ‘sorry’ should have been first on the list? Such a shame that it wasn’t the first, the last, or anywhere
So my understanding is that whilst the Event notes say ‘drivers must keep to the right of the line’ the FIA Sporting Code states ‘drivers must not cross the line’ Both protests dismissed, but why are
@FIA
Race Director Event Notes not consistent with the sporting code. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
So it’s an overspend for Red Bull of 0.37%, but an overspend is still an overspend however large or small, surely a benefit must be derived from that overspend. Scrap the minor or major breach nonsense in the future & 10% wind tunnel reduction? Is that really a strong deterrent?
I asked, she answered, we’re now engaged 💍💍💍 A Christmas Day proposal to my soulmate, thanks for saying yes

Let’s be honest, it wasn’t a good race & despite the win for Red Bull, the Monaco GP lacked fizz. Can’t all be classics, but it’s such a shame that a classic in Monaco is unlikely these days. That said, congratulations to Max, Carlos & Lando & well done to Seb on a fine 5th too.
DANIEL RICCIARDO ON LOAN TO SCUDERIA ALPHATAURI FOR REMAINDER OF 2023 SEASON
1st race will be Hungary next week.
Can’t help think that however nice it will be to have Daniel back on the grid, Nyck wasn’t given enough to time to show what he can do - 10 races!
So, here’s a little bit of news for you all. 24 races this season, but I’m going to miss 3 of them. Will be a bit strange as it’s been a while (2007) since I last missed one. Good luck and welcome to the team to Harry Benjamin who’s standing in for me
So many messages from you all, thanks for staying with MB & I, hope we made it worth your while. I hope too that a way can be found to compensate those who braved the elements. Atrocious conditions. I’m just sorry for them & for everyone that we couldn’t see an epic race today.
Thoughts and prayers with the family of Anthoine Hubert this evening, along with his friends and all at Arden and the F2 Paddock after he passed away as a result of his injuries from a crash today. Juan Manuel Correa is stable and being treated in hospital. Heartbreaking news
Fernando Alonso joins
@AstonMartinF1
on a multi year deal - now there’s some big news to start the summer break with! No brainer for me - still one of the best on the grid, week in week out
Awful news here in Melbourne on the eve of the new season that FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting has passed away. Admired and respected by everybody, his contribution to the sport was unparalleled & immense. We’ll hugely miss him. RIP Charlie
To try & help you all understand the penalty, the Stewards after finding Max predominantly to blame have handed out as similar penalty to Max as they gave to Lewis at Silverstone. Obviously they can’t give a 10 Sec pen as the race is over, hence 3 places on the grid in Russia
Christian Horner stated at this mornings press conference that the 10% reduction in wind tunnel usage computes to between 0.25 & 0.5 second of lap time
Lewis & Mercedes agree a new deal but it’s only for 1 year Which means that the contracts for both Lewis & Valtteri run out at the end of this season as does George’s at Williams. 3 drivers chasing 2 seats at Merc & all out of contract. You could argue that’s a smart move by Toto
Here’s the FIA Document relating to a potential breach of the regulations for Lewis Hamilton’s car during qualifying. This could be a back of the grid or pit lane start if the technical regulations have been broken
Waiting for official confirmation, but it’s my understanding that there will be NO penalty for Max Verstappen after his trip to the stewards room this morning.
It’s more than language. These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport. I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.
Wow, what a race! Baku doesn’t fail to disappoint again. Delighted for Checo, he could easily have led earlier in the race. Huge disappointment for Max & Lewis, contrast that with a brilliant result for Seb & Pierre. The potential tyre failures will be a big concern to all teams
Stewards decision - stand by folks, the race results could be about to change. According to the
@FIA
over 1200 instances where a car may have exceeded track limits were reported during the race
So, after following their processes, the FIA have released the document confirming that Fernando keeps his 3rd place. Here’s some bedtime reading for you folks. Correct decision in my opinion & I think we can expect a re-write of the regs next week to say ‘must not touch the car’
Delighted for George who thoroughly deserves the step up - Really looking forward to seeing him drive a more competitive car and seeing how Lewis responds to the challenge thrown down by his new team mate.
So it’s €50,000 fine for Max Verstappen for touching Lewis’ car in Parc Fermé - All teams & drivers are warned that future breaches may incur different penalties. Expect the FIA to police Parc Fermé more strictly in the future
Wow, what a race!! Brilliant 58 laps and an epic drive from
@LewisHamilton
Winning his record equalling 7th world title in style. Congratulations from one Stevenage boy to another & to all out there with dreams for the future, Lewis is right, never give up, keep dreaming
Decision from the FIA - Max Verstappen - 5 place grid penalty for ignoring double waved yellow flags. Valtteri Bottas - 3 place grid penalty for ignoring single waved yellow flag. Carlos Sainz - no further action
Well said
@NicholasLatifi
One of the nicest and respectful people you could wish to meet, wouldn’t it be lovely to see him treated with the same courtesy?

BREAKING NEWS - Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton announce a 2 year contract extension, keeping him at the team until the end of 2023. Not unexpected of course abs I wonder if we’ll get news of his future team mate at the next Grand Prix 🤔🤔🤔
Whilst we wait for a decision from Stewards, I thought you might like to know that the FIA always do a random check after a race, 4 we’re checked here. Cars 1, 4, 16 & 44 & Charles & Lewis cars were allegedly found to not comply with 3.5.9 e) of Tech Regs
Well it’s taken a while folks, but finally here is the Provisional Starting Grid for the Italian Grand Prix. I get that it was a difficult one to work out this week, but surely the information could have been published a little sooner
Congratulations
@SChecoPerez
who more than deserved to stay on the grid with such brilliant form this season. Red Bull’s decision is hard on
@alex_albon
but I’m glad to see that he’s staying with the team as test/reserve driver. I hope to see him back racing in F1 in the future
BREAKING NEWS - Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc disqualified from the US GP for excessive wear on the skid pads - other competitors move up the classification and Alex Albon and for the 1st time in F1, Logan Sargeant now score points
Busy morning in Zandvoort. Kimi is isolating back at his hotel after testing positive for Covid. Robert Kubica will now replace him for the rest of the weekend. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen has been summoned to the stewards for allegedly overtaking under a Red Flag 1/2
20 years ago they won at Spa as Jordan. Tomorrow they head to the track as Racing Point Force India - that name will change for next year. The important thing is that the team survive, along with 400 jobs and continue to race. Good news all round, surely

Over two hours after the race has finished, a decision. Penalty for Sergio and he keeps the race win. Surely though, this could have been investigated the race?
That’s all from the
@SkySportsF1
Commentary Box this season. 105 practice, qualifying and race commentaries. 1262 race laps and plenty of brilliant races. Once again it’s been a pleasure bringing the action to you…
Heartbreaking news this morning. Sir Stirling Moss was amongst the best of the best, on and off the track and didn’t need a world championship to prove it. RIP you wonderful man and thankyou x
No decision on the right to review hearing tonight. This just in from the FIA ‘Following today’s hearing with representatives from Mercedes and Red Bull, the stewards are now considering the matter and will publish their decision tomorrow.’
Sad news this evening that Tony Green has passed away at the age of 85. So many laughs and giggles in the commentary box in the years we worked together. Thanks mate, you were a total legend. RIP Tony x
Busy weekend in the Stewards Room, and it’s not over yet. A summons for Christian Horner. The article of the Sporting Code mentioned includes ‘Any Misconduct towards Officials or Member of the Staff of the FIA’
Just for clarity, & I’m not sure the FIA statement is totally clear on this. Pole for the sake of the record books will be awarded on Friday. The person who finishes the sprint in first starts the GP first. (But not on pole, unless of course the Sprint winner also won qualifying)
And to all the fans we met across the whole weekend, thank you to you for your passion and enthusiasm for the sport we love. You make the Grand Prix the most special weekend of the year and boy was this one special 🏁🏁🏁
Decision from the Stewards - Lewis Hamilton disqualified from qualifying. So that will be a back of the grid start for the Sprint this afternoon. Stewards agreed that something had gone wrong with the component, but couldn’t find mitigating circumstances
And so the driver Merry-go-round begins to revolve once more - Good signing for
@alfaromeoracing
and good news too for those at the team who’ve learned Finish over the last couple of years :))

So it’s Jack Aitken in at Williams and George Russell off to Mercedes for this weekend. Hard on Stoffel but if George is the future for Mercedes it makes sense for the team to take a look as they have a seat available. And stand by for more Haas driver news in half an hour
Well that was a very different Italian Grand Prix to the one we expected and what a delight to see
@PierreGASLY
take his first win. Congratulations mate, I’m so chuffed for you. 1st time in V6 era we had no Mercedes/Red Bull or Ferrari on the podium, lovely to see some variety
And when I say “back of the grid or pit lane start” my understanding is that it would be for The Sprint (Saturday) as qualifying today forms the grid for The Sprint not for the Grand Prix (Sunday)
Oh, and I managed to bump into a very smiley
@Carlossainz55
as I left the track & I can confirm he rather liked the little poem. So, lets end the day like this…..
There once was a boy from Madrid.
Who knew he could win.
And he did!
Night everyone
Not a surprise, Ottmar’s departure has been on the cards for a while. 12 years with the team & instrumental in helping save them from extinction. Speculation that he could end up at Alpine has been denied but never totally ruled out. I don’t think this is the last of Ottmar in F1
From

@SportmphMark
and me, Thankyou to you all for joining us this season. I hope you’ve all had as much fun watching the action as we have. 110 days till FP1 in Melbourne, bring it on 🏁 👍
Got back home to hear that our race day coverage reached 2.1 million viewers! Really chuffed that so many of you tune in to our Sky Sports F1 coverage thank you if you did. Across Sky & Channel 4 more than 3.5 mil watched the opening race that’s a lot of early risers on Sunday :)

Good news for Australian F1 fans, and those of us that love the Australian GP - a deal has been signed keeping the race in Albert Park until at least 2035. That’s a new 10 year deal after the current one expires, with F2 & F3 on the support card too.
It’s about the accountancy this morning - £1.8 million overspend becomes £432,652 because a Notional Tax Credit of £1.4m wasn’t correctly applied. So Red Bull are fined $7m and are subject to a 10% reduction in wind tunnel testing for the next 12 months….
Mercedes withdraw their intention to appeal & pay tribute to Max & Lewis. The debate will continue I’m sure & rightly so. If the
@fia
believe the image of the F1 Championship is being tarnished they have to work hard for the future to ensure clarity & trust in the regulations.
Okay, the Stewards document is out and the comment about a solution needing to be found to avoid a repeat in the future is absolutely spot on. Sainz, Hamilton, Gasly, Albon, Ocon, Sargeant, De Vries, Tsunoda all penalised further
It’s a right to review - Mercedes are entitled to ask the Stewards to take a look at the incident. Firstly the Stewards will decide if an appeal should be permitted - then, if they say yes, an appeal will be heard
From the FIA statement, just issued. No details of the exact sums involved but the list of potential penalties for breaches of the cost cap are on the right. I’m sure you will all have your own views on this, but no penalties have been announced by the Cost Cap Administration yet
Some pleasant news to wake up to this morning. Suzuka until at least 2029! Always wondered though why there’s only 1 figure of 8 track that F1 races on? Not sure why more weren’t designed 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
And there goes Sebastian Vettel! Well, not now, at the end of the season. It’s going to be 300 GP entries and out for a man who will be much missed missed in the paddock and very much on the race track.
Charles says he’s worried about the state of his gearbox after that crash in Q3. I’m not surprised, anxious wait ahead after a thrilling qualifying. Shame we were robbed of seeing everyone’s final flying laps but what an exciting qualy it was. Can’t wait for the race now!
Now I get it, some fans don’t like this idea. Personally I’d have preferred a reverse grid format for sprint qualifying. But, with one less practice session & an extra (shorter) race it should increase the action over the weekend. And if it doesn’t work...at least F1 gave it a go
Sprint Qualifying 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙!
F1 will trial shorter Saturday races at three events this year
Races will set the grid for Sunday while top three will score points
