This Russian general who’s not dead, only “taking a rest”, does seem to have beautiful Norwegian blue plumage.

Well, great. Cormac McCarthy dies, and leaves the rest of us living in a Cormac McCarthy novel. https://t.co/ztORwtHC39

Hanging out with my 2yo step-grandson-to-be before our wedding. He’s into Laurie Berkner’s music, but calls her “Larry Derker”, which flashes me back to my 70s baseball cards.

I don’t care whether “pantless thundergoose” is made up or not. That’s my new name for the bird formerly known as the ostrich.
This is a thread of some of my favourite literal translations from languages around the world, starting with this one… In Bengali, the word for a penis, অতিসরল, translates literally to “tyranny trunk”

This right-wing judge’s WSJ op-ed titled “My Struggle” probably sounded better in the original German.

i can't see any problematic incentives in a scheme that pays people 10k per year for each kid they don't send to school
Abbott is now explicitly calling for universal vouchers like Arizona. Under one bill, parents who homeschool or send kids to private school would get $10,000 per year per child in a savings account. The money could roll over and go toward college costs.

@WalshFreedom I'd prefer that MoC be allowed one tax-free swap trade to index mutual funds after they are elected, but before they are sworn in. Then no individual stocks until 180 days after they leave office.

9/ ...momentary lapse of reason. They were a preview. 2022 was a close-run thing. It was the EASY year in the challenges to the rule of law, free elections, sanity, reason, and the Constitution. 2024 is coming, swift and terrible.

As she tries to fall asleep, my 4-year-old asks me to sing her a lullaby. I want to freeze this moment in time - old enough to ask for a lullaby, to know the word, and young enough to want one. I begin to sing. In seconds, she sleeps. I finish the song softly and head downstairs.

My dad used to love singing “Deck Us All with Boston Charlie”.
For today's Holiday Music Fest, we have a treat for fans of the classic comic strip "Pogo." It's the loopy, nonsense song "Deck Us All with Boston Charlie" that Walt Kelly wrote for the strip, and was later recorded. https://t.co/My6MUvuAwV

A new holiday word: batchet. This is an auto-correct because I told a friend that something my husband had said made me bat-shit crazy. Batchet sounds Christmasy & Dickensian. So here’s to all the other women feeling batchet today.

The octobass of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. It typically plays one octave below the double bass. This rare bowed strong instrument was first built around 1850 in Paris. There are a handful in museums but the MSO is the only orchestra in the world to own one. 1/2
