Promoting my research @Techniquest last week. One of the most memorable interactions was when I told an 8 year old boy that I'm a scientist and he replied, "...but I thought scientists looked like Rick and Morty?". #womeninSTEM #notallmaleandpale

Turns out I've wasted so much time studying #pedagogy. As long as my students think I know what I'm talking about, that's all that matters...right?! π€£π€¦πΌββοΈ

If anyone is wondering what to do with empty tip boxes... πͺ΄
3/3: But Iβve run out of plant pots, so thatβs where Tip Boxes come in (all approved by departmental bio safety guy). Drill holes in base, pot in baby spider plant, use the lid as a drip tray. I now have a couple of dozen little plants to cheer up some Freshersβ Uni rooms :-)

So proud of our students for excelling in an intensive bioscience education research week. π©πΌβπ«π©π»βπ¬π©πΌβπ» A fantastic team of educators and such an engaged bunch of students! Definitely earned a weekend off! π₯±
Spent the most amazing week with these colleagues and Year 2 students from @CUBiosciences, doing a week-long Education Research experience on βHow to better support students going into/through Yr1?β. Generated their own data and presented their findings like real pros!! Awesome!

Just been re-reading article about need to teach #SciComm skills to #students ..." even more important now! yet we are often heavily focused on presenting to peers (conference / posters). How may #bioscience programmes have core #Scicomm training?

Where does science communication (yellow speech bubbles π¨οΈ) fit into a scientific project? This is what our students think! Had some lovely feedback from a student today about how she really enjoyed getting off her seat and doing a more tactile task in class with @EmmaYhnell

A great start to #CULaunchpad22 seminar. We've already talked about inclusive practices, the learning community, transition to HE and Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Thanks @LTAcademyCU! #newteacher
