There was some evidence that females preferred cooler waters than males, particularly in Spring months. On average, females also appeared to dive deeper in warmer temperatures (>26°C) relative to males.

Female whale sharks migrated from Ningaloo Reef earlier in June/July and spent more time offshore, while males stayed longer and used coastal waters more frequently.

Following the loss of white sharks from False Bay, both seals and sevengill sharks have increased in relative abundance, coinciding with declines in small fish that seals feed on and smaller sharks that sevengills prey upon. Illustration: Kelly Quinn

New publication in @SciReports showing the effectiveness of electric deterrents to reduce risk of bites from white, tiger, and bull sharks. These deterrents have now been tested on the three species responsible for the most fatal bites. https://t.co/0m7kKvwSfb

Most incredible science discovery this decade! Changes every textbook. Manganese nodules produce oxygen in the #deepsea!!? ⁦These are the nodules targeted for mining… they make oxygen… 😳🤯⁩ ⁦@DeepSeaPod⁩ ⁦@DSBSoc⁩ ⁦@BBCMorelle

The discovery that lumps of metal on the seafloor produce oxygen raises questions over plans to mine the deep ocean.

‼️TW: Graphic Imagery ‼️ Stole this vid of an orca predating on a whale shark off of fb 🔗👇 They are displaying v similar behaviour to Port and Starboard, but in the Sea of Cortez. It seems the first orca is distracting the WS while the second removes the liver! Fascinating.

There's an official government petition to raise the PhD stipends in Australia to $45k. Their current rate of less than $30k makes it impossible to focus on research and will have long term impacts on Australian trained scientists. Sign it!

We're building a huge DNA library of Australian plants and animals! 🧬 📚 This will help make identifying (and protecting) species much easier. We can use simple eDNA methods to monitor biodiversity in an area. @minderoo https://t.co/vTOsayQQYr
