I understand if you’re 16 or 17 and you’re yelling at the refs and acting crazy, that’s having fun and being a kid. If you’re doing it and you’re 60 years old, you’re acting like a complete buffoon and you’re doing nothing but embarrassing yourself. #statetourney

Parents: Stop: Coaching from the stands Yelling at refs Lecturing your kids after games Talking about teammates Telling your kids to ignore coaching Playing the blame game Making failure unacceptable You don’t need to coach. Be supportive. Offer encouragement & just love them!

Tis the season of blaming referees for tournament losses, both while at the game and then again later on social media. Adults claim to want to teach their kids about responsibility, accountability, etc…and then act this way year after year. Rinse and repeat. Such a tired act.

Flashback Friday: Years ago there was an Ohio Boy’s Basketball State Tournament that was played over the course of 3 days & 4 divisions. Fans could walk across a street to packed hotels & bars. Some journeyman would venture further for cards or a dance. Rome is now gone.

This is a Roger go-to: When he notices the FT shooter has his shirt untucked, he will walk up, whisper something, the player typically cracks a smile, and promptly tucks his shirt in. Roger probably says something like “this is a dumb rule but they make me enforce this, sorry.”

High School Recruits in ALL Sports: It’s more difficult than ever to be recruited. Here’s some advice to standout: 1. Be ELIGIBLE! Be MORE than eligible! 2. Don’t let “level” alone guide you! 3. Ask questions….a lot of them! 4. Initiate contact! It’s okay! 5. Focus on what

Please remember when the new 7 divisions of @OHSAASports tournament brackets are released today and they look really watered down, they actually aren’t. Because Doug Ute said so. Your eyes, and basic logic/math, are wrong. Doug Ute is right. It’s also not about the money!

My son was offered $38,000 towards his education, 70% of the bill for the year at an NAIA school. The max this school offers. Here's what is VERY important young athletes: more of it was for his grades than football! $22,000 for grades, $16,000 for football. Stay on those books!
