A backwards step. Some questions. 🤨 Why is HMT justifying a third runway with a report *commissioned by Heathrow*? 🤝 How many meetings has the Chancellor had with Heathrow lobbyists? 💨 How will aviation emissions be kept in line with carbon budgets? https://t.co/IdcLQUzUez

I'm sure all the newspapers constantly painting renewables as a waste of public money are similarly vexed by the billions handed out to gas plants. Right? Right?!?! https://t.co/zTxVXxh0re

Maybe we should ask people what they think rather than relying on the frothy culture war headlines and soundbites...? Any party expecting a ratings boost by pissing off environmentalist (e.g. with massive carbon-budget-busting airport expansions) would do well to take heed.

What are the main reasons voters have switched from Labour? Winter fuel allowance trumps all else. After that, impatience over public services + cost of living. Immigration less salient. Net Zero of no salience whatsoever. Scandals less than I expected. via @YouGov

Good news klaxon 🎉 In 2024 the UK... ✅ Phased out coal power 📉 More than halved fossil fuelled power vs 2014 📈 More than doubled renewable power vs 2014 💨 Produced almost as much wind power as gas power - with wind set to overtake gas this year https://t.co/PqkHuDxFJF

The UK’s electricity was the cleanest ever in 2024, Carbon Brief analysis shows, with CO2 emissions per unit falling by 2/3 in a decade.

Sadly in aviation, "busiest" = "most polluting". I was one of these festive flyers, coming home from Belfast on NYE. But I preferred the boat on the way out, which has a fab festive vibe around Christmas. Even bumped into ace ex-colleague @GreenerGina https://t.co/m2wgJikJJf

The idea that we can massively expand biofuels for planes is for the birds. Or rather, against the birds. Expanding biofuels is bad for nature. Period. Even waste biofuels. The only sustainable future for aviation will be based on using 💨 & ☀️ energy. https://t.co/3TNb76qlvw

Using biofuels to decarbonise EU shipping and aviation puts biodiversity at serious risk. E-fuels are the only solution compatible with both climate and biodiversity targets.

Contrails have a net warming effect on the planet, at least as important as the one caused by aviation’s CO2 emissions. But good news: simple measures to avoid their formation could have a huge impact. So what are we waiting for? Read our report 👉 https://t.co/WnJ1KsM2EN

I'm writing this on the train from London to Holyhead. Then we'll get the ferry to Dublin. We're making use of Sail Rail, a little gem of a train ticket that includes the ferry crossing for a fixed price of £57.50. Decent wifi, charge points, a cafe, it's not too bad so far 👍

I'm on my way to a climate conference. Not COP29, but the Global Aviation Sustainability Day. It's run by Aircraft Leasing Ireland. Half the world's planes are leased, and Dublin is the sector's leading global hub. I'm doing the trip with some smashing colleagues and partners.
