Prof. David Kahane: The University of Alberta communicated that they “wanted to show” a “more caring and student-centred” response than elsewhere. “I was told repeatedly . . . that the university would not clear the encampment unless there was violence.”

.@ualberta why bother setting up pol sci, history, and law departments? It's like teaching immunology and calling the police if students decide to get vaccinated. What a horrifying choice of action on your part.

.@BFlanaganUofA we demand an explanation for why the university asked the edmonton police to disperse a peaceful protest asking the university for transparency re: @ualberta investments. Were you aware of the intent to use force to remove your students from the quad?

.@edmontonpolice please explain why the level of violence exacted on @Ualberta students was allowed and why those dispersion strategies were different than those used with the trucker convoy, antivax protests and the Coutts border blockade.

In universities, we learn to ask deeper questions and how to critically think. We learn about history, politics, & law. Explain calling the police on students peacefully implementing what they learned in your own departments? @UAlberta

“This is not a normal war. The war in Ukraine has killed 500 kids in two years and the war in Gaza has killed over 10,000 in less than five months. We have seen wars before but this is something that is a dark stain on our shared humanity.” -Dr. Fozia Alvi

I post this with a bit of trepidation, but the question needs to be asked: had the individuals in those vans were non-combatant Palestinian Gazans, would any of us have heard about it? The question is not rhetorical.

Would he say the same if it were Russia that killed the aid workers? And starved Ukrainians? And destroyed their infrastructure? Then kept stealing more and more land? Oh, and struck Finland, Latvia, and Georgia? AND bombed the Polish embassy in Norway?
NSC Spokesperson John Kirby: There is no evidence that Israel deliberately struck and killed WCK aid workers in Gaza. Kirby adds that to date, the US has found no instances where Israel has violated international humanitarian law in their war with Hamas.

If a state seems incapable of military restraint, and reluctant to abide by international law, should it be receiving more military aid? Should it be allowed to possess nuclear weapons? What does it say about its allies?
