Swanbank is set to be SEQs very first Clean Energy Hub starting with a 250MW battery and community co-design. The Swanbank precinct has been supporting good local jobs for more than 50 years and that will continue for many more with jobs in solar, green hydrogen and batteries.

Our Wivenhoe Hyrdro runs like one big rechargeable battery. Water is pumped from Wivenhoe Dam to Splityard Creek Dam, then sent down tunnels into a turbine to create electricity. Water then flows back to Wivenhoe Dam to start over. #hydropower #cleanenergy #renewables

The Wivenhoe Power Station in South East Queensland is the the only pumped storage hydro in the state. And it’s a powerful one. The two 250 MW generators are the largest Francis type turbines in Australia, weighing a huge 1,500 tonnes each. #hydropower #cleanenergy #renewables

The current Barron Gorge Hydro was actually preceded by the first ever underground power station when it was built in 1932. When the demand for power increased, the underground station was closed and the current hydro was built further upstream and opened in 1963.

The area surrounding our Swanbank E power station makes for a great day out. You can catch a ride on the steam train which is operated by Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway and have a picnic by Swanbank lake, which is maintained by our team.
