"we must abandon the antiquated notion that mental and physical health are addressed by discrete systems. they are inextricably linked.. ..yet the separation of primary care and mental health care has created two unequal standards." #thisispedpsych
The US invests over $10B in training physical health care professionals..... ...and only 1/750th of that (not a typo) in mental health care. Meanwhile US has highest rate of suicide attempts of all wealthy nations! See my op-ed here: https://t.co/3S7yxcp5cO

New paper!! S/O to @ClaireMariaBird and @MilwaukeeTrauma Racial trauma and race-based traumatic stressors, including racial discrimination, are drivers of mental health disparities. But few studies have looked at associations between racism and the brain.

I was giving a presentation when this father's words left me dumbstruck. I knew he was right. I had watched my daughter nearly die of #anorexia. I too knew what it was like to feel helpless in the face of a house on fire. To weaken the flame, we need better support for families.

Feels like the right time to dive in to #AcademicTwitter !
Dr. Claire Bird. Today the first in our cohort successfully defended her dissertation. Her research focuses on mental health disparities and trauma responses in Latinx populations. This is a unique and critical inpatient population.
