Anyway, I'm out of time to give to this article. I hope it helps clear up any lingering misconceptions.

Here's a chart from the report. Note that in ~ 1/3 of all agencies Black ppl were more than twice as likely to be arrested or searched than white people. Almost no departments show that level of disparity with white ppl. .

We also point out that the departments where Black people were much more likely to be searched and arrested far outnumber the departments where WHite ppl were more likely to experience those outcomes.

One last dumb critique they make is that we don't highlight the fact that White people were statistically more likely to experience outcomes in some departments. But we explicitly acknowledge that. it's why we listed out outliers on both ends of the spectrum.

Then again, why am I surprised? This publication makes no bones about their ideology . and weird nostalgia for the confederacy. I wonder what they liked about it so much?.

The third critique is my favorite. The author says the quiet part out loud. He basically says that Black people are at fault for escalating stops. Next time just say you believe Black people are criminals because of their race, it's fewer words.

Also, we state explicitly in that future research should include other socioeconomic variables (which would obviously include age).

The author then attacks us for failing to include other variables like age. A decent critique, but an intentional choice on our part. We strictly replicated the methods that a federal judge already found convincing.

If Black people who are pulled over are searched 6x more often than white people, that's a clear and significant disparity. Regardless if Black people are 8% of the population or 80%.
