Many cities with declining apartment production have inclusionary zoning, and the ones that are increasing do not.

This is a disaster for Chicago on so many levels, and yet, I'm still going to attend so many community meetings this year full of people complaining that Chicago is building too much new housing.

The most frustrating part is how our leaders could easily prevent a housing crisis while also promoting the urbanism Chicago is known for: - Citywide upzoning (4 flats by right) - Permit fast-tracking - Single-stair reform - Elevator reform - Develop CDOT land near transit

the point of courtyard urbanism is that Americans can have their cake and eat it, too. They get the big house with a (court)yard AND all the amenities and conveniences of a dense, walkable neighborhood.

@FrankCalabrese Huh, would you look at that. It's almost like this whole selection process is just cover so they can put whoever they want in office. At least it's all being done to replace his political allies who he gave higher profile, higher paying jobs to. Just doing the people's work.

Chicago is the only large city in America where the mayor can unilaterally appoint council replacements. Regardless of who is mayor, this will continue to happen until we fix it through reform.

The concept of community engagement sounds like a great idea, until the city schedules THREE public meetings in one week for your neighborhood. This happened last month in Lakeview. I want to spend evenings playing volleyball or cooking with my fiancée. Not arguing with NIMBYs!
