Today, the majority of the Chesapeake region will experience a partial solar eclipse! 🌘 Be sure to soak in this rare phenomenon, but remember to not look directly at the sun!😎 📸Will Parson/Chesapeake Bay Program

🌳It's Maryland Arbor Day! The official state tree is the White Oak (Quercus alba). You have seen their acorns on the ground which provide a great source of food for wildlife animals. The wood from white oaks is used to make high-end flooring, barrels, kegs, casks, ships & boats.

A new national wildlife refuge could be carved out in Southern Maryland, and the public has a chance to weigh in on the plan. If approved, this would be the first national wildlife refuge in the Bay region in 26 years. https://t.co/XQRYwetrDz

Happy Maryland Day! Today commemorates March 25, 1634 when settlers disembarked from two small sailing ships - the Ark and the Dove - on to Maryland soil. St. Clement's Island is where they landed in what is now St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Happy #WorldWaterDay! The Bay receives about half its water volume from the Atlantic Ocean in the form of saltwater. The other half (freshwater) drains into the Bay from the enormous 64,000-square-mile watershed 📸Will Parson/Chesapeake Bay Program
