"A calculator app? Anyone could make that.". Not true. A calculator should show you the result of the mathematical expression you entered. That's much, much harder than it sounds. What I'm about to tell you is the greatest calculator app development story ever told.

You see I'm struggling with women, and you tell me to take off my fedora. Tell me, when you're at the gym and see someone struggling with a bench press, do you also tell them to take off the weight?

maybe if stephen hawking said it was an awesome party instead of a flop that noone came to, some timetravelers would have actually wanted to come.

I always found it interesting that the amount of interest something gets is not related to how hard it was or how much work it took

this is going to sound like the most obnoxious ai-hype-bro thing ever, but cursor background agents is actually pretty good for working on things from the beach, especially if you have a CI/CD pipeline that allows you to preview changes.

like, i didn't realize how much I needed it. social media is truly one of my biggest ops. Being able to force myself to unplug for half an hour is great. It costs $40/year, but that means it literally only has to save me one hour per year for it to be worth it to me.

I used to always bounce off those productivity distraction-blocker apps. it's because they all default to "block everything all the time". I recently switched to "freedom", which only turns on when you tell it to (and stays on for a set amount of time), and it's 10x better.

idk, but I always loved how Copernicus was obsessed with planets orbiting in circles, and didn't want to admit they were ellipses. but in a way he was right! because you actually can think of orbits as circles - great circles on a sphere, stereographic-projected to a plane

is there some connection between this pattern and planets orbiting the sun elliptically.

wrappers who:. - deeply understand human emotion.- nail timing & distribution.- build fast & iterate socially.- treat narrative as a product. will own real surface area. most wrappers suck because they’re either boring, derivative, or function first. but a wrapper with taste,.

How have they not made a foldable kindle? It wouldn't even need a folding screen, they could just use two totally separate displays, and it would make it so much more portable.

people who talk about the number of dependencies a library or project has are crazy. Way better would be to talk about the number of lines of code in your dependency graph. Otherwise, using a few small dependencies somehow looks worse than using one gigantic dependency.

another fun example is that type inference for types of rank > 2 is undecidable.

Something about the number 3 somehow makes a technical problem impossible to solve once it crosses this boundary. For example,. 1. 2-body problem has a straightforward solution following Kepler’s laws, while 3-body problem doesn’t have a general solution. 2. 2n+1 is trivial.

QWERTY was designed so that keys that commonly follow one another would not be adjacent on the keyboard. This was important to prevent early typewriters from jamming. You're literally using typewriter era technology and you expect me to take you seriously. come on.

just go into your mac's keyboard settings and switch it right now. save that picture to your desktop and keep it pulled up for a couple days. then you can spend the rest of your years flexing on qwerty users who use an inferior layout.

If you can't touchtype, there's 0 reason not to switch your kb layout to colemak. it forces you to learn how to touchtype, a huge improvement you get to keep for the rest of your life. learning takes like 2 days, and common keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-z/x/c/v/a) all stay the same.

how is meta ad targeting so good? i go on instagram and the first two ads are perfectly tailored to my interests. then i open reddit and the ad tells me to quit my job to pursue my true calling of constructing submarines. wtf

Good news: I've reported this to google and they've already fixed it. It should go out in the next iOS Chrome update.
