The Thai Navy on 1 Oct decommissioned training ship PINKLAO 413, a Cannon-class destroyer escort transferred from the US Navy in 1959. Built in 55 weeks by Western Pipe in Los Angeles and commissioned in May 1944, she lasted more than 81 years in service! https://t.co/0nVlXK0bwV

Throwback: my photos of training ship FOUDROYANT at Portsmouth UK in Sept 1984. Built in Bombay, India in 1817, afloat at Pompey from 1954-1986, she regained her original name TRINCOMALEE in 1992 and has been restored as a sailing frigate and preserved at Hartlepool UK

Big week for new Arleigh Burke-class Flight III destroyers: HII Ingalls announced completion of sea trials for TED STEVENS DDG128, the 2nd F3 to be completed for the US Navy, while @GDBIW christened their 1st F3, LOUIS H WILSON JR DDG126, on 27 Sept

SENTRY MCM3 & DEVASTATOR MCM6 last US Navy mine countermeasures ships in 5th Fleet decommissioned 25 Sept at Mina Salman Bahrain. With DEXTROUS MCM13 decom'ed 3 Sept & GLADIATOR MCM11 decom'ed 4 Sept all will be brought to Philadelphia via heavylift ship for disposal

Two fine warships decommissioned 25 Sept at Naval Station Norfolk: Ticonderoga-class cruisers PHILIPPINE SEA CG58 and NORMANDY CG60. Both built at Bath Iron Works. CG58 commissioned in March 1989, CG60 in Dec 1989. BZ and very well done. Photos-FB. Last shows CG60 plankowners

2 Sept 1945 - the formal end of WW2, 80 years ago today. Japan's surrender documents signed aboard battleship USS MISSOURI BB63 anchored in Sagami Wan, presided over by US Gen MacArthur. "These proceedings are closed."

For the first time since at least 1997 Russia's nuclear-powered heavy cruiser ADMIRAL NAKHIMOV 080 is at sea under her own power. Ship is carrying out builder's sea trials after a major rebuilding at Sevmash. First commissioned 1988, laid up since 1999. Will replace PYOTR VELIKY
