I like having my Catherine Project homework to do while the kids are doing their homework, except for the part where they finish their homework and merrily go off to play and I'm still struggling to finish 30 pages and a 1-page essay over the course of a week. (I'll get there!)

I've noticed that since I've said "no support for Israel or Islam" my views have plummeted.

@eckiam @CatherineProj Most of the other groups don't have 'homework' -- and even the life of the mind written responses could only VERY LOOSELY be called homework. (It's only 300-600 words) But it's been really good for me to make myself read harder texts and discuss them & keep my mind sharp (ish).

@eckiam @catherineproj is an org that does free reading groups and courses. I've been hacking my way through the Life of the Mind curriculum since they started that, which means right now I'm in the middle of Plato's Republic.

Thank you @CatherineProj I had an amazing time reading and discussing Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse. I tried book groups before but this experience is so different, it has to be my favourite. I had such a profound time listening and participating in deep conversations. 🙏💖

Arjun Poudel Most of us have seen neighborhood kids playing with spinning tops. Some of us might ourselves have played one in our childhood days. I had my first spinning top at the age of eight or...

Currently enjoying reading the Anabasis very slowly in my tri-lingual version (ancient, modern Greek and English). Rereading classics is great, but there is something to be said for not knowing the story. I genuinely don't know what will happen, and ...

Is this the first shout-out to @CatherineProj in a Norwegian newspaper? Probably. Mentioned them as inspiration, as well as Ingeborg Refling-Hagen, for my classics reading circle at the local library.

Both @stjohnscollege and @CatherineProj get shouts-out in this fine and nuanced piece on the civics institutes
"Although the great books curriculum may be perceived as conservative or elitist in the current context, Hitz noted that it springs from a historical movement that possessed a “radical egalitarianism”." Grateful to @joliverconroy for permitting me a bit of preaching...

@zenahitz What if I used the incentives associated with @CatherineProj participation to read parts of the First Critique?

The old lady is whispering hush so she can finish her @CatherineProj reading.
Due to the uniformity, design, and color of the titles on the bookshelves in Goodnight Moon I am forced to assume that the bunny is getting a Greek & Latin education through the Loeb Classical Library.

and you can seek help from @CatherineProj and make true friends while you're at it
You know those classic books you've been meaning to read? You can just read them. They are less difficult and more interesting than you think. And if a book is too hard and you don't understand it, you can read it again.

This shirt memorializes the great work of David Crane who took students through every book of the Republic in Greek for @CatherineProj and this was free of charge! A heroic endeavor. I was lucky to experience Book 2.

@zenahitz @CatherineProj Would be easy to stick with exciting remote stuff on the Internet. But I think it’s important that people try to do the hard work of introducing ideas and creating spaces in local communities everywhere.
