My Jose Canseco card collection sat sad and alone in a bin for 25 years. But my love is rekindled! 1,147 and counting and I’m gonna try to post one a day.

As promised, here’s the super cool thing that happened today! I had the immortal @JoseCanseco sign my original art! First time meeting him and I was too flustered to turn around and pose with him. 😳

I’m never a fan of using the same pic from the front on the back. Boring. And would it have been so hard to bump Jose up a card number to 33? 2/2

1,147. 2023 LEAF TRINITY #32. This represents my first foray into modern Leaf! Definitely a bummer that it’s unlicensed, but it’s still a nice card. And it’s classic, mulleted Jose! 1/2

RIP, Jim Clancy. Such a steady mid-rotation guy for the Jays when they first got good in the mid-80s, when I was falling in love with baseball and the team. This is the extent of my Clancy PC.

Nothing special about the back but it is one of the cleaner Stadium Club back designs. Of course, they don’t bother to do anything different on parallel card backs, which is boring. How about a red card number? Is that so hard? 2/2

1,146. 2022 TOPPS STADIUM CLUB RED #114. This gives me 7 versions of this card and there are probably another 800 parallels. But progress, right? This is a fun shot because there are at least 2 people who seem to be taking a picture of Jose having his picture taken. 1/2

Well, this is weird. It says “Oakland Athletics Major League Batting Record,” which implies they’re gonna give us only his A’s stats. Instead, they give us partial career stats, eliminating his first five seasons with the A’s! 🤔 2/2

1,145. 2021 TOPPS 1986 35TH ANNIVERSARY #86B-22. I’m always thrilled to welcome a nice, glossy tribute to Jose’s 1986 Topps debut. But I’ve always wondered why they go with the full “Athletics” name rather than just “A’s,” which they did back in ‘86. 🤔 1/2

This back photo is very familiar, also used on his ‘22 Chrome Platinum Anniversary cards. Nice write-up focused on Jose’s career achievements. But it’s sad to see “retired in 2001” when he really had more to give. 2/2

1,144. 2020 TOPPS STADIUM CLUB SEPIA #146. Sepia is always a nice antique-looking parallel. But what’s funny about this photo is Jose couldn’t look more detached from this fan interaction. He’s standing as far away as possible and looking who knows where, but not at the kids. 1/2

Of course, as the name suggests, this insert set is all about players with family in the majors at some point. And for that, we point to good ol’ twinsie Ozzie, who played a total of 24 games with the A’s and Cardinals. 2/2

1,143. 2019 TOPPS CHROME THE FAMILY BUSINESS #FBC-13. Now my Topps flagship version of this card has his Chrome brother beside him. Always nice to bring family together. Especially when it’s the Family Business. 1/2

This is a relatively rare instance of a horizontal front with a vertical back. No surprise, this “Greatest Moments” card commemorates 40/40. It was a truly great moment. 2/2

1,142. 2019 TOPPS UPDATE 150 YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL #150-65. I really like the unique borderless design on this insert, with those diagonal lines in the corners and in the “GREATEST MOMENTS.” Plus, we’ve got a cool shot of prime, mulleted Jose! 2/2

You know what makes me see red? Not seeing any red on the back of this card. Come on, Topps, even if it’s just the player’s name. 2/2

1,141. 2019 TOPPS TOPPS STADIUM CLUB RED #185. Yesterday’s post was so nice, you’re seeing it twice! This time it’s coming at you with a snazzy red foil treatment. This is no doubt a gorgeous photo, but I can’t help but snicker at the parquet flooring. What an odd choice. 1/2

Pretty nice card back, with the stadium in the background and Jose wielding a pair of bats. I’m a fan of the write-up, too, since it focuses on Jose’s amazing speed and power prowess. 2/2

1,140. 2019 TOPPS STADIUM CLUB #185. This could very well be Jose’s best Stadium Club photo ever. Granted, you don’t see his face, but it’s full of drama as Jose heads from the clubhouse to slug another day, with that iconic name and number on full display. 1/2

Cool write-up. I don’t think I knew Jose got on base with a bunt single before swiping number 40! What a speed demon! 2/2

1,139. 2018 TOPPS ARCHIVES #316. Jose snuck in with a base set card here many years after his retirement. You know I always love a card commemorating 40/40, since that’s when I caught Jose Fever. But the pic looks like it’s from ‘92 with the A’s 25th anniversary patch. 1/2
