https://t.co/zf8aq9ZcHP "Accent prejudice maps onto societal prejudice". I'm pleased to have contributed some thoughts to this great article on accent bias, but not pleased (or surprised) to read the accounts of people feeling held back by or mocked for their accent.

Sociolinguists say accent bias is prevalent in the UK and affects how people are perceived by classmates, colleagues and friends.

See the below thread for lots of exciting media coverage of this study about accent prejudice in forensic contexts from @ivipproject, conducted by @alicepaver @WrightDW @NatalieBraber & Nik Pautz @NottmTrentUni @Cambridge_Uni @MMLL_Cambridge @CamLangsci
Weโve had loads of coverage in the media, which is really exciting! On Friday I was on BBC Radio 5 Live and LBC talking about our research. Weโve also had coverage in BBC News here: https://t.co/meqCDorOTe

Todayโs seminar was given by @mrccbu researcher Dr Tobias Goehring, who presented ground breaking research on โrestoring the sense of sound with cochlear implantsโ. The team trained AI systems to try & decode speech in noisy environments for cochlear implant users. Thanks Tobias!

Thanks so much for coming back @panpzz, it was an honour to host you! We hope you enjoyed all the tricky questions ๐
Lovely to be back @CamPhonLab to present the second experiment of my MPhil thesis, which focused on the adaptive perception of ambiguous prosody (i.e., lexical tones in this study).
