Questions for principals/district leaders/sups: Are there good programs that help admins understand what good math instruction looks like (and that don’t feel overly abstract or require massive overhaul)? If not, would that be helpful? Brainstorming an idea. DM to discuss.

I think Ss mult by 5 on both sides and get 10x-4 = 100, then add 4 and get 10x=104, then divide both sides by 10 leaving them with the fraction 104/10, then they simplify by dividing by 2 over 2 giving us 52/5!
Some students are submitting "52/5" as their answer. It is correct, but what do you think is leading them to answering in fraction form rather than decimal form?

@ThePointedTOSA Our analysis found that not only are they more likely to arrive at the correct answer, but they’re also more likely to retain that knowledge two years later. We think you’re on the right track to explore this with your students!

1/ These are results from a problem where we asked students to identify fractions. If you only look at correct vs incorrect, you’d probably think the students in 5th performed worse than the students in 4th. A thread about why we believe the opposite to be true. #MTBoS

There’s plenty more to a student’s thinking than their selection on a multiple choice question indicates. We’re committed to investigating and uncovering how students are actually thinking about math.
