My dad is alive (& I exist) because after he was paralyzed at age 16 in a diving accident, my grandma was taken into a broom closet by a nurse who told her to call an ambulance & have her son transported, because the hospital doctors had decided it was more humane to let him die.
I work in primary care. When we hear about someone's inevitable death from dementia or chronic illness our immediate thought is generally "thank fuck for that". The sooner euthanasia is allowed, the better.
