@CULConservation held a wonderful session on East Asian Binding for @Cornell_Library staff @Mann_Library. Participants learned about volumes in CUL's collections and made their own beautiful books w/decorative paper covers, sewn w/paper twists, and bound with thread.

On the 191st birthday of our first University Librarian Willard Fiske, the president of Iceland visited our rich Fiske Icelandic Collection. To honor the visit, we gifted President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson with a custom-made book of images from the collection. ♥️🇮🇸

Our conservator Trina is introducing lab staff to the improved photodocumentation system she & our imaging specialist Simon developed-w/a new camera & software, individual training sessions, & a workflow guide. Caitlin will treat this volume-well documented with the new system!

Conservation staff made remoistenable tissues today, led by Trina Parks, Conservator for Rare & Distinctive Collections. Handy for mending--the lab is now stocked w/ toned & untoned tissues in varying weights, w/ wheat starch paste/methyl cellulose & gelatin adhesives.

The faint line at the edge of the print (and extending down) is the fine strand holding the display page open. Nearly invisible! Most of the book supported with polystrap. But w/the strand, the opening is unobstructed. Beautiful!
