Today we remember Nancy Gwinn, who served as Director of Smithsonian Institution Libraries from 1997 until her retirement as Director Emerita in 2019. Nancy brought the Libraries to a new level of recognition, expanding to include 21 branches with new services and technologies.

As we prepare for the holidays, sometimes only a hippopotamus will do. In the collection @smithsonianarch, a 1930s photo shows taxidermist William L. Brown holding a clay model of a hippopotamus for exhibition in the United States National Museum (now @smithsoniannmnh)

Celebrating mum season with some lovely and unusual examples in "Keika hyakugiku", a Meiji era book from Japan. A popular fall flower in the U.S., it's a symbol of power and royalty in Japan & the official flower. See Vols 2 & 3 in our Digital Library: https://t.co/mmfycGtcV2
