We confirmed this using two approaches: - Neural network predictions of exploratory behavior - CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing where fish with induced mutations showed a much higher exploratory tendency than control fish.

The genetic basis of behavioral traits has been difficult to pin down. We found that many genetic variants influence exploratory behavior but one of them shows a near perfect correlation with this trait: a single base pair just before the gene cacng5b.

A species' tendency to explore matches other aspects of who they are: how they look like and where they live. Formally, this means that exploratory behavior is a part of niche-adaptation in this adaptive radiation of cichlid fishes.

I spent nine months at the shore of Africa's Lake Tanganyika measuring curiosity of over 700 cichlid fish belonging to 57 different species. We found that species behave very differently when in a new environment: while some sit in the corner, others go and immediately explore.

New in @ScienceMagazine! What's the role of behavior in evolution? Is curiosity linked to diversification? And how is curiosity encoded in the DNA? These questions motivated our study: https://t.co/Ne3xVcxPnN

Super interesting review article by my awesome colleague Milan @millanek1
The final version of our review article about the distribution of genetic variation across evolutionary radiations of cichlid fishes (with @HannesSvardal and @WSalzburger). Great experience working with @AnnualReviews. Hope you like it š https://t.co/JjY1gOvujS

Here I describe a brief overview of how the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna mRNA vaccines work. Taking a vaccine is oneās personal choice, and I hope this video can help someone make that decision rooted in science.

It has come to this: I am making my first ever PhD position announcement. Join me at @UniOslo_NHM if you're interested in hybridization, speciation, and the use of genomics to investigate both. Please RT.

Proud to see online my first review and, at the same time, the first article as a senior author. A big thank you to @HannesSvardal and @WSalzburger for co-authoring. "Genetic Variation and Hybridization in Evolutionary Radiations of Cichlid Fishes" https://t.co/sZ8xghtKf6

Hey guys, hereās my newest blog about my latest field trip to Lake Tanganyika

Field work is team work. Biologists are dependent on helping hands when it comes to data sampling in the wild. When my field work was rather short (1-3 weeks), I always found some volunteers amongsā¦
