Earlier this week @GovNedLamont signed into law Public Act 25-151. Beginning in the next biennium, nonprofit funding will increase with inflation every year during the state's budget process.

Nonprofit providers appreciate the support of the Governor and General Assembly in turning this idea into law. It can make a difference in the lives of thousands of Connecticut residents – people who work for or are served by community nonprofits.

Community nonprofit providers both are part of the social safety net and part of the business community across Connecticut. The Act builds on the funding increases built into the budget and in recent budgets to keep nonprofit funding from falling further behind rising costs.

For two decades, The Alliance has advocated for this policy. Thanks to Governor Lamont and a bipartisan group of legislative champions, in particular Sen. @MattLesser , Senator @CathyOsten and Representative @JillianG_CT , it has finally become law.

The support of legislators from both parties can help keep us on track as the state faces federal funding challenges this year and beyond. We thank them for their invaluable support.

Importantly, the legislature also passed a bipartisan bill that, if signed into law, would index future funding levels to inflation. The combination of funding increases and future indexing means that nonprofits can take a step forward not just this biennium, but into the future.

Nonprofits were heartened that rank and file legislators, including the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, Moderate Caucus and progressives, stood together to add important funding, and that legislative leaders and the Governor agreed.

Community-based nonprofits saw solid gains in the 2025 General Assembly session. The biennial budget agreement will provide more than $200m in new dollars that will be a lifeline for health and human services providers, their staff and the people who depend on their services.

ACTION ALERT: It is CRITICAL that your legislators hear from you over the next several days. You need to ask them: only agree to support a final budget that increases funding for nonprofits. https://t.co/9uA538yYeA
