Work to replace the top & bottom gates at Lock 69 (Newton Heath) on the Rochdale Canal have been completed. Specialist teams, including joiners, bricklayers & stonemasons, used a 300-tonne crane to replace the 25-year-old gates with new ones. Great work team. 👏

The sun was out for today's Manchester Activity Day. Volunteers were busy removing over 5 one ton bags of litter and unwanted vegetation from the Rochdale Canal through Manchester city centre. The team also worked on lock maintenance by oiling/greasing and painting locks. 👏

First Saturday volunteer taskforce Fairfield locks on Ashton canal. A fantastic turnout. Bags upon bags of litter collected, lock walk cleared of buddleja, wagon wheel (not the chocolate kind) recovered & plenty of scraping back to uncover some hidden cobbles.#volunteerbywater
