Our thoughts on the financial challenges faced by surgical residents, particularly those who desire or have families @maryhawn @StanfordSurgery @StanfordGenSurg.
The current ACGME funding model leaves residents earning below a living wage, especially those with children. Calls grow for childcare stipends, flexible pay tied to work hours, and mentorship to address financial burdens and retain top talent in surgery.
