Retired Ohio workers comp fraud investigator/special event director, sits front row at AEW events & 1992-2018 WWE events w/wife Jan as wrestling's Neon Couple.
@WrestlingNewsCo
Not true. The biggest financial flop in wrestling history, was when WCW led by Eric Bischoff, with the greatest depth of a talent roster in wrestling history, lost over $62 million in 2000.
@WhoisVindictive
For over 25 years, we had a WWE contact at the highest exec level who put us front row as long as we paid face value. Or...we paid max $$$ through Stubhub when our contact "retired". That's probably how they do it...
@FightOwensFight
Well said KO. You've been a total class act ever since my wife & I met you back in your ROH days. Keep up the great work, even though the ring steps tried to sabotage you last night...
@TheRealXPac
Hey Sean. I just tweeted condolences to Kev after hearing about Tristen. You can reach him quicker than us. Please let him know we're so very sorry about his loss and that we love him. Chris and Jan.
@2000s_WWE
Best live PPV crowd we've ever been part of. When our neon colors jump up after Rock kicks out of the legdrop, we knew it was full speed ahead for the rest of the match!
@WWE
Introduced to Owen Hart after WM8. Asked for our number, resulting in us picking him up at airport & taking him to arena over 30x from 1992-99. Stayed overnight at our Columbus home over 10x that period. Always ripped up our signs at ringside for fun & did comedy photo shoots.
Unfortunately, wrestling fans lived through this before, with the 1999 death of Owen Hart on live PPV. Owen was a dear friend of ours, so tonights horrifying incident of Demar Hamlin has been a terrifying reminder of Owen. Please pray for Mr. Hamlin & his family.
@JasmineTra23648
@WhoisVindictive
My wife & I were to be engaged on camera in front row at Mania 10 in 1994 at MSG. Show ran long, couldn't be engaged on tv. Since we never complained, as a make good, we were granted front row ringside seats as long as we paid face. Lasted until our contact "retired" last August.
We won this piece from the 1st Pillman Show on 4/29/98, signed by everyone on the show, including
@IAmJericho
who main evented. Today before Dynamite, we showed it to
@FlyinBrianJr
, who is the rightful owner of it from now on.
@boutmachines
You hang in there! I was a new govt employee in 1993 who was ostracized for being a wrestling fan. Until I brought The Rock to my building in 1998, Hardyz in 2000, Rey in 2005, and Mickey in 2006...all for charity. They shut up, until they showed up at the signings. REVENGE!
@Inside_TheRopes
That the Montreal Screwjob was 100% real and not a work. I was there, i knew Owen, had a long conversation with Bret about a yr later, and know
@davemeltzerWON
and his Observer work. No way possible that it was a work...
Yes, that was Jan and I with
@FlyinBrianJr
during tonight's AEW Dark, holding the framed art piece we'd won via raffle on 4/29/98 at the 1st Pillman Memorial Show, signed by everyone who appeared. Brian envisioned the spot several days prior, ran it by us, and AEW OK'ed it.
Hey there! For
@davemeltzerWON
and everyone out there, today's my 1st day as a near paraplegic. Hope to get better within 8 months. Glad I have the latest Observer to keep me company...
@JRsBBQ
My wife is a retired trauma nurse. She's sure she would have hopped the barricade to treat Owen the moment he hit the ring back then. We came so close to going to KC to pick up Owen, as he tried to bribe us with front row seats. That would have been horrific live...
@yixura
Kyle is a type 1 diabetic. He suffered a brief real life diabetic light headed episode. Sitting with your head between your knees is the quickest way to clear your head when such an episode suddenly happens.
@90sWWE
We still miss him. For years, we picked him up from the airport for OH/PA shows, and he spent the night at our home for Columbus shows. In 1998, we took him to Outback for b-day dinner after a Cinci show. He ribbed us every chance he could, and we loved it!
@seththebigdog
@WhoisVindictive
We had 25 great WWE years, but enjoy AEW now. We saved ticket stubs from all our shows, so Peacock keeps us alive whenever we want to watch a show.
@dondeemo69
@WhoisVindictive
You are so wrong! For 25+ years, after the engagement plan fell through at WM10 in 1994, I just called my WWE contact about a show, gave my credit card info to his secretary, and we'd have front row tix for any WWE show we wanted. Sorry the truth hurts...
@davemeltzerWON
Doesn't cody winning make Seth look weak? Let me be the 1st to predict cody is out through the end of 2022, but returns as a surprise entrant in the 2023 Royal Rumble
@AEW
@ColtCabana
@ringofhonor
@IAmJericho
You can't tell me that this moment didn't mean the world to Colt. Look at those misty eyes. A 20 year vet was barely holding it together & nearly sobbing in public, because the moment meant so much to him. Bravo to you Colt...the moment was yours, and you deserved it!!
Hi
@JCLayfield
. Jan and I wanted to thank you again for looking out for us, and for checking up on Jan's injured leg all weekend in Indianapolis during Squared Circle Expo. It meant so much to both of us...more than you can imagine. Thanks again.
Hi
@davemeltzerWON
. Today's my L3-4 fusion, to try to restore feeling & mobility in my left leg. Doctors say it's 50/50 whether I regain anything. Wish me luck, I need it. I appreciate any well wishes from the wrestling brotherhood.
@jabot97
@KnaveGrohl
@davemeltzerWON
Dave was ALREADY one of the nation's top sportswriters back in 1991 when he wrote the US's only true wrestling column for The National, c/o that publication's publisher, Hall of Famer Frank Deford. Since then, he's written for SI, WSJ, NY Times, and many others. Wake up, dude...
@_denisesalcedo
I think Kyle suffered a real life diabetic light headed episode. He goes really pale, slurred his words, then sat down for no reason. He puts his head between his knees, which is the classic remedy for sudden dizziness. Hope Kyle is ok...
@StephMcMahon
@WWE
Best of luck in dealing with an incredibly difficult situation. The Neon Couple has been honored to have known you for years. We support you through this challenging time. Take care...Chris and Jan.
@Bengals
@LSUfootball
You betcha! I was born & raised in Columbus, got 2 degrees from OSU, but my family came from Baton Rouge and I hate Urban Meyer & Ryan Day, so I root for LSU & the SEC to beat the Buckeyes and the Big 10's ass everytime!
@ReneePaquette
@TheMarkHenry
@UMichFootball
@Kaepernick7
This OSU Buckeyes alumni is DAMN PROUD of Coach Harbaugh for naming Colin Kaepernick as honorary captain!! It's never wrong to do the right thing. In the most sincere tone possible...GO BLUE!
@FightOwensFight
We always love your work. It's people like you who keep this art form alive. Best wishes from Chris and Jan...the Front Row Neon Couple.
@IAmJericho
@AEW
No...the best signing was YOU signing this art piece from the 1st Pillman Memorial Show, which you main evented vs Chris Benoit. We won it on 4/29/98, and gifted it to Brian Jr at last night's AEW Dynamite in Cinci. Hope he showed it to you.
@davemeltzerWON
Who has the better business pedigree: a renowned journalist who also teaches a sports MBA class at Stanford, or 1 who bankrupted a wrestling company once worth millions, who now sits on his Montana front porch every AM, tweeting & screaming at the clouds with no one listening...
@davemeltzerWON
I'm disappointed that so many people are trying to discredit AEW about All In. This is a great day for wrestling. Who would ever have believed this was possible 5 years ago? This entire story, from Cody, the Bucks, and Kenny in ROH...to All In 2023...is storybook movie material.
@WWEonFOX
@MsCharlotteWWE
Who says the belts are just "props". Who says this beautiful art form is "fake"? Bullshit! That match was a work of art, and I love the real emotion by both ladies. Charlotte's tears 3 min before the end says "we've got 'em"! Thank you ladies!
@ChandranTheMan
My wife & I were part of WWE/F back to the 1990s, and have been part of the indy circuit since then, too. Everyone we knew called it "the fed", so that was what we called it, and still do now with our AEW friends.
It kills us to not be at Rupp for Mark vs Jay. We'd planned for weeks to buy front rows from Stubhub, but my spinal issues & surgery have me stuck on the couch. Between Dayton & Columbus, we've seen the Briscoes about 25-30 times. If Mark comes out with both belts, I'll lose it.
5 weeks post op: Can only walk 100 ft max with walker. L leg still numb & flops. L3-4-5 fused itself due to severe arthritis. Nerve regenerates at 2mm per day so hope is still 80% recovery of feeling in leg by Oct. Exhausted at end of every day. Slow progress is discouraging.
@dustinrhodes
We know what you mean. Our neon colors have seen hundreds of shows, but Dynamite in Cinci might be our last, as it's hard for our 60+ yr. bodies. We have trouble just going from parking lots to arenas. Probably only conventions & fan fests from now on.
@WrestlingNewsCo
What a handsome group...along with some guy named Oscar! In all seriousness though...congrats to the happy couple. May your pleasure be endless, and may your pain be champagne.
@The_MJF
That was the Citizen Kane of babyface promos. As someone who's been bullied much the same way as you, I give you major thumbs up. You make me BELIEVE. Thank you
@RealPaigeWWE
Welcome to Twitter. Always respected your ring work. Hope you can make it back as an active wrestler, but if not...you've had a helluva career. Plus, we have a mutual friend! Best wishes from WWE'S front row neon couple...Chris & Jan
@WrestlingNewsCo
I'm sure Vince wrote the line, and ordered Michael Cole to say it. Vince has always had a fetish for toilet humor (bowels, vomiting, flatulence,etc) It's been part of WWE programming for decades.
@Inside_TheRopes
Benoit winning the World title at WM20 in 2004. We'd known Chris for years, and the vision of 2 who Kevin Nash once called "vanilla midgets" (Chris & Eddie) now holding WWE's 2 major titles on wrestling's biggest show, made us openly weep that night at MSG.
@SuchGoodShitPod
@JasmineTra23648
@WhoisVindictive
Thanks. We always knew how lucky we were. We never took it for granted. We never abused the privilege. We never acted stupid on camera. Execs, WWE staff, wrestlers, referees, security, tv people.. everyone took care of us. We always tried to give it back 10x more.
@undertaker
@RealMickFoley
@WWE
@AETV
Jan & I have known both of you for the entire journey. Plus, we literally had a front row view of your greatest chapter. I always feel embarrassed that when Mick hit the broadcast table, the hard cameras pulled back to show me..applauding? Felt disrespectful 2 you in hindsight...
@TripleH
@ShawnMichaels
@WWENXT
Best wishes for a speedy recovery from the front row neon couple. Both jan and I have been treated for a-fib for over 30 years, but it never kept us out of the front row, as we keep kicking out at 2.9. God speed...
@Dope_Jev
@WhoisVindictive
We had a contact who swore us to secrecy...not a "contract". We did work with HWA (WWE Developmental) from 2001-04, and worked for WWE at AXXESS over Mania weekend for several years. We always treated everyone at WWE with respect, and got it back 10× in return.
@davemeltzerWON
UPDATE: Cleaned & prepped for 5pm L3-4 laminectomy. Surgeon hopes for 80% recovery of L leg strength & feeling w/ full recovery in 6-8 mos. Plan is up walking in 12 hrs, 2-3 days in hosp., then discharged home. Thanks to you & everyone's well wishes! Miss the front row at AEW/WWE
@smFISHMAN
We hated HBK for years, as he swore to us in the hotel lobby the AM after the screwjob, that he had nothing to do with it. Only after the DVD came out, did we forgive HBK after he apologized to Bret.
@Tony_Swish
@davemeltzerWON
At the 2001 Pillman Show autograph session which we ran, Chris wanted to flip me over the 1st row guardrail in his match as a rib on Les Thatcher. I said no, as I thought Les would kill both of us. Chris joked that "he can't kill us if he can't catch me, Tammy, you or your wife"
@DrainBamager
Great match, but I'll always believe the Lights Out match between Britt Baker & Thunder Rosa from Daily's Place was better. 1st USA match in years where the WOMEN bled buckets, Baker's best AEW match, and made Thunder a star. Just my opinion...
@RealBrittBaker
@AEW
@RefTurnerAEW
But you're a true pro, who finished the match out of respect for the fans & wrestlers. Unlike Sin Cara, who walked out of a RAW match vs. Del Rio, when he had a slightly dislocated pinky finger which was popped back into place seconds later.
@RealMickFoley
Me too. The 2nd Amendment is obsolete and should be abolished, making firearms legal for active military and cops ONLY. Every country in the world has a version of this, and only the US has such a high # of shootings. So sad that Republicans value guns over lives...
@briancagegmsi
That would be like me being mistaken for Goldberg, which sadly actually did happen in the Philly International Airport during Wrestlemania (yes. WWE'S biggest ppv) weekend. I politely said no I wasn't & ducked into the men's room, and the fan followed me in anyway. Heavy sigh...
@StephMcMahon
Oh my gosh! Jan and I were always flattered with the respect you treated us with backstage, and how you'd discreetly wave at us when the TV lights went down when you'd be at ringside as The Authority. May you have the best Mom life ever (Photo is backstage on your 2001 birthday!)
@davemeltzerWON
Your "keep fighting" words mean a lot. Wish Inoki was around to slap a little fighting spirit in me, to keep me going. Thanks again so much...
Admitted to Riverside Hosp. in Columbus at 430pm, as I woke up with left leg completely numb, unable to walk or stand. Immediate MRI ordered to identify damage & possible permanent inability to walk. 13 hrs later still no MRI. No sleep either in this so called dark room...
@davemeltzerWON
I think the Owen Hart tournament keeps his spirit alive in a way a token HOF induction never could. Anything WWE would do in Owen's name would always have a negative cloud over it. Whatever AEW does (TK & wrestlers alike)...will always seem positive & heartwarming
@TheFacesOfWWE
Incredible match. Shamrock telling Steve that if he didn't reply, he was stopping the match, is an underrated dramatic masterpiece. We were lucky to snap this photo from our front row seats.
Hey there
@StephMcMahon
...I've had about the same last 7 days around hospitals as you have. Hope your ankle is getting better. My back is not. My Instagram/Facebook pages go into detail about my back & leg numbness and partial paralysis. Best wishes that
@TripleH
heart is ok.
@WrestlingHumble
Mauro Ranallo & Excalibur, hands down. Both guys tell the match story, they know the moves, and they educate viewers about the history of the wrestlers, the moves, and the promotion.
@Rhellic
@davemeltzerWON
Neither Cody/AJ nor Cody/Roman deserved 5 stars. Both were excellent, which is why both were 4 stars+, but neither were 5 stars. Silly of you to fight Dave over a quarter star...
Hi
@Saraya
! Was great meeting you at Starrcast. There are great workers, and great performers. But it takes special skills to be a great champion, and you conduct yourself like a truly great champion. Thank you.
@davemeltzerWON
We knew SC since his WCW days. Night before Mania in the bar, Steve asked if we were front row, as he was getting color & wanted somewhere safe to gig. I said we were behind the timekeeper table. He said "perfect". Watch the match, he gigs near my cowboy boots & sign tube.
@davemeltzerWON
In December 1995, I was guest ring announcer for a WWE house show match between Ahmed & Spicolli. I sat with Howard Finkel, and Ahmed stiffed the absolute snot out of Spicolli. I remember Fink commenting on how unprofessional Ahmed was, and that he would report it to Vince.
@WWEGraves
Interesting. At the Montreal Screwjob, Bret gave his glasses to a boy next to us. Then he & HBK brawled in our lap (photo) before the match, and my wife ended up taking this iconic photo of Earl calling for the bell at the end. One wild & crazy night...
@davemeltzerWON
I remember every detail of that SS weekend. Talking to vince on Saturday, the PPV, Owen telling us in the hotel that bret was screwed, HBK telling us he was 100% innocent, and Nash telling us at Nitro (Rude on RAW/Nitro same time) that HBK knew all along. I could write a book.
@ChrisNowinski1
Couldn't agree more.
@BrickSavage7
is a clown going into business for himself, being completely reckless & unsafe, and committing basic assault on someone who made the mistake of trusting him. NEVER BOOK BRICK SAVAGE AGAIN!
@Inside_TheRopes
What if Hogan vs. Flair for the WWF Title had main evented WM8 in 1992 in Hoosier Dome, instead of the double main event of Savage/Flair & Hogan vs Sid?
Hi
@davemeltzerWON
. You should check out the WWE doc on Vladimir. It's excellent & long overdue. We sat next to or close to Vlad & the NY Crew for many PPV'S (including the Montreal Screwjob), and they are great people. Best wishes to Vlad as he deals with health challenges.
@TheRock
@ProjectRock
Today is overwhelming. Your Neon Couple friends here, Rock. Jan's dad had major surgery today to remove his colon. I'm at home alone recovering from spinal back surgery, can't feel most of my lower body, 80% chance to be normal. Could really use a pep talk from you Please..Chris.
@IAmJericho
@AEW
@AEWonTV
I'm sure you were off your blood thinners for 2 weeks before this. Thank you for the effort & thank you for the match, but hopefully no more of these matches for you. You've given us enough over 30 years.
@davemeltzerWON
Wasn't the context that Andre entered the ring drunk and wouldn't sell anything for Maeda. Maeda tried shoot kicking/wrestling, but Andre kept going for the eyes & being uncooperative. Inoki came out & Maeda asked what to do, with Maeda eventually hitting the ref to cause a DQ?
@allan_cheapshot
Absolutely! We love this photo of the 3 taken in 1996 prior to a WWF TV taping in Wheeling WV. We know, because just a few minutes prior, my wife & I got our photos with Mr. Funk!
With Jan's dad stuck in the hospital through Xmas with stage3 rectal cancer, and my worsening medical issues preventing us from going to AEW or any shows, 2022 can't end soon enough. Thanks to our followers for enjoying our Neon Nostalgia & making us smile. Happy Holidays!
@Fightful
I disagree a bit. She's smiles way too much in WWE, where in AEW, she always had a badass snear with attitude. In WWE, she can't say "Cut the shit" to the interviewer, or call herself "that damn bitch", or even cuss like a badass in WWE. Sponsors will force her to be too PG.
@2000s_WWE
Rock vs. Hogan at WM2002. Best crowd atmosphere I've ever experienced live. The post match was magic...the past joining the present. Wife & I both had tears.
@apter1wrestling
I'm sure that Jerry Lawler is everyone's 1st choice to induct Andy, but if Jerry's health won't let him make the trip to LA, I can't think of anybody better to present & induct Andy...than Bill Apter.
23 years ago today, we lost our midwest travel buddy Owen Hart in wrestling's most senseless, reckless, and most tragic accident. Props to Dr. Martha & the
@owen_foundation
for 2 decades of angelic work for single & battered mothers. Owen would be so proud. We all miss him so...
@davemeltzerWON
RECOVERY SETBACK: News not good. Lots of pain. Right thigh 100% numb, left lower leg 100% numb. Hope is now for 80% nerve recovery within 8 months. No guarantee on leg strength recovery. Will be transferred to rehab facility. No idea for how long, or when can go home. I'm crushed
