What did we find? Alongside reading and writing, students engaged in metacognitive processes, particularly at the beginning of the task and during reading. Metacognitive processes of planning and evaluation were rarely observed, despite their importance in writing tasks. 4/5.

How? We analyzed digital trace data from 179 students across three European countries, using rule-based AI labeling to identify SRL processes. 3/5.

Why? With the emergence of generative AI, creating written learning products has become effortless. This shift underscores the importance of measuring learning processes during writing tasks to better understand how students learn. 2/5.
